He did fall clutching his achilles, but there was no salmesque leap and thrashing around.

Is this a red card in the premier league? on 09:32 - Apr 22 with 2189 views | Pique | No. According to the letter of the law, it's only a red card if the recipient pretends to be seriously injured in order to get a fellow professional sent off. [Post edited 22 Apr 9:33]

Is this a red card in the premier league? on 10:11 - Apr 22 with 1932 views | LeoMuff | All hail sir, as many said at the time a challenge that literally happens multiple times every match every weekend. The fact Saka made such a dramatic leap in the air, him being an England international and playing a top 6 team, meant Leif was done for.

Do people seriously think that wasn't a red card ? Leif raked his studs down Saka's Achilles. It is a stonewall red card.

Ok if we accept that , where in the OP picture is the ball Saka is trying to win? I think all everyone os saying is if you are goingvto apply the law to one instance at least do it evenly and fairly! [Post edited 22 Apr 10:55]

The post I was replying to implied that its a tackle which happens all over the country every weekend which just isn't true. As for the screenshot, I would need to see the challenge in real time, I cant remember when it happened in the game. But if it was the same as Leif's then yes it should be a red card. Clearly.

Ok thats a fair point.... its another thing that thing that the implementation of VAR has created... if ref subjectively ( and correctly ) decides the offence is a red should it not then be on the lookout for similar occurances he then misses.... eh?
Is this a red card in the premier league? on 11:44 - Apr 22 with 1390 views | Smoresy | Has the source supplied video footage? My guess would be that it doesn't show Saka planting his foot on O'Shea's lower leg, and so we're left with this suggestive picture instead.

MOTD2 https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/m002b94x/match-of-the-day-2-202425-2004202 6:14 for real time 6:25 for replay He's taking a shot and the follow through rakes down O'Shea's achilles. The Premier League statement said that Leif was sent off for endangering an opponent. This challenge was not deliberate but was equally endangering an opponent.

I guessed wrong, cheers and apologies for the scepticism! The two aren't equivalent in my view because his shooting foot is just returning to ground, unfortunately onto O'Shea's Achilles or his instep. It wasn't a challenge and the energy has dissipated by then; the attempted challenge or block is instead made by O'Shea, which then leaves his leg in the vulnerable position to potentially be stood on. I wouldn't describe Saka's action as dangerous.

Completely different boss. Saka's foot was coming down after kicking the ball, not a challenge *with* your guy and he hits the front of your guys foot, not the achilles

Is this a red card in the premier league? on 12:49 - Apr 22 with 1054 views | stonojnr | I said in my analysis of Davis red card, I bet you'd find a dozen or so similar tackles in the Premier league season and there would be no consistency in the decisions. Didn't expect there to be another one in the same game ffs Does that mean we can label Arsenal players thugs too as some of the more hysterical gooner fans were calling us.
