Football quiz question on 21:43 - Apr 23 by Nthsuffolkblue | Weren't Everton considered one of the big 6? I guess they got replaced by Man City at some point. However, Man City have been outside the top division a lot more than the others, Everton especially. |
Yes. When I was a kid (1980s and early 1990s), there was generally considered to be a Big Five - Arsenal, Manchester United, Liverpool, Everton and Tottenham. People would have laughed if you'd said Chelsea and Manchester City were big clubs, both were regular relegation fodder.

Those point totals and goal scoring figures are utterly ridiculous. Middlesbrough finish bottom with 81 goals scored and a goal difference of only -7. Bury finish 5th with less goals scored and more defeats than Middlesbrough and don’t even have a positive goal difference! They also won as many games as the champions. In a relative comparison of positions in today’s PL theres a world of difference between Newcastle and Southampton. Back then, the proverbial fag paper. That is a competitive and exciting top division compared to the ridiculously unbalanced farce we’ve had to endure for the past eight months. I bet Sky had a nightmare picking which matches to show on the final day. [Post edited 23 Apr 23:08]

Standard deviation-tastic. It's as though they randomly allocated the players to each team at the start of the season.

They're on their way back. Last weekend they had a crowd of almost 9,000 to watch them gain promotion from tier 9. This promotion will put them at the same level as Bury Town.
