Some tasty looking EFL fixtures coming up 15:23 - Apr 25 with 1250 views_clive_baker_

Frank Lampard’s Coventry v Michael Carrick’s Boro final day will be fun, assuming Boro dispatch of the also rans tomorrow.

Said also rans could send Cardiff down on the final day too (if their fate isn’t already sealed tomorrow). Who joins them? Luton, Derby, Hull? Maybe even Oxford with a horrible final day trip to in form Swansea if they lose to Sunderland tomorrow.

In L1 I’d like to see Charlton win at Wrexham tomorrow to take that to the final day, Wrexham then have Lincoln away who could be party poopers.

Plenty to play for at the bottom of L1 and both ends of L2 as well.

Way more entertaining end to the season than the premier league.

Didn't realise Charlton were at Wrexham tomorrow. That is proper tasty. I fancy Charlton to do them as well.

As for the Champs, I think it will be Cov and Brizzle in the play-offs and I give them about a 10% chance each of going up.

Plymouth and Cardiff down. Hopefully Luton to join them, a parachute club out of the way who surely can't be as bad as they've been next year. But I do fear for Derby.

Yes, some cracking stuff coming up. Priority for me is that Wrexham go nowhere, next season will be unbearable if they come up again.

A pretty tepid Swansea side at home is a great fixture for them

Title chasing Burnley away on the last day, not so much.

I wouldn’t call winning their last five games “tepid”

Stoke could yet go down from the Champ as well - they have the Blunts tonight and then what could be a loser-takes-all relegation six-point against Derby next week.

I think they might have just eeked out enough points to be safe, but it could all change.

I hope Plymouth stay up, but they have PNE tomorrow and then home to title-chasing Leeds on the last day.

Their form is outrageous under their new manager. They look to be dark horses for next season.

More white swans…

On Swansea, I still to this day think that Broadhead goal away there in the rain was one of the worse goals I’ve seen. A chip thing at waist height, thankfully it went in

It’s a battle of the league titans innit:

Swansea the form team, Millwall good at home. Could go either way.

Bar Leeds/Burnley, this back end of the EFL has been very competitive and entertaining at both ends of pretty much all the leagues. That’s what you want to see rather than what we’ve had in the PL.

Not for me. I don’t think they have the quality and depth to seriously challenge, but it’s been one hell of a new manager bounce so who knows. It’s a classic case of the whole being greater than the sum of their parts at the moment. If they can add a bit of quality up top then maybe they could be a challenger through the play offs.

You might be right and no doubt you’re closer to their goings on, I’ve not followed them too closely in truth aside from the recent results. I think the championship will be so open next season though, as it tends to be. Possible points deduction for Leicester, Saints with a new manager, WBA & Norwich too so who knows how those appointments work out. Brum coming up with money, possibly Wrexham as well, but again it’s anyone’s guess how they’ll adapt or how hard they spend. Let’s assume Bristol City, Cov & Sunderland miss out in the playoffs. You could see any of those between about 3rd with a tail wind, of mid table and not be too surprised either way.

Boro (talk Carrick might go as well), Watford, Blackburn, Millwall, Swansea. All much of a muchness. I wouldn’t want to call it but I could see Swans anywhere between about 4th and 14th. Momentum can take you a long way when it’s such an even field, 20 wins pretty much guarantees you playoffs in a league where everyone takes points off each other. It’s crazy to think Cov or Boro are likely to finish 6th having lost 17 games or so.

I’m looking forward to it. Hopefully we can have a high degree of continuity with McKenna & his coaching team. No doubt we’ll lose 3 or 4 bigger names and the same again of lesser ones, but we should be in a good place to be strong with the right additions and bulk of the squad we’re taking down.

Expect you're right. They've spent mad money by L1 standards, the top 3 signings ever in L1 are theirs including the £15m on Stansfield.

I don't suppose they'll mess about in the Champ and will be coming up with serious momentum. We know how valuable that is.

There’s a train of thought that they’ve not been very good this season, but have simply won by having better players who can produce a moment of quality.

Your middle paragraph sums it up; there are plenty of teams that could finish 4th to 14th. Consistency is the real challenge, so yeah anyone getting some momentum can shoot up the table (or vice versa).

I think I’m looking forward to it, kind of. The Sat/Tues/Sat routine can get a bit tiresome (although it’s probably harder for the players!).
