Holiday destination/hotel recommendations 09:30 - May 1 with 2934 viewsartsbossbeard

Got a few couples going away together this year as we always do but we're looking for a new destination after visiting the same place for the last few years (even though this place is superb and would highly recommend).

Looking for:
*1wk All-Inc BUT with some nearby bars/restaurants/things to do so that we get out a fair bit.
*Stansted flights preferable
* 1st Week Sept, so still need it to be warm/hot
*around 3hrs or less flight time
* Budget circa 1k PP

Holiday me up, good people.

Tui Magiclife in Pizzo, Calabria, Italy

A wonderful relaxing week with a beautiful village just a small taxi ride away.

Ha!

Do I need to bring my own ping pong balls for the evening entertainment or are they provided?

….from Stansted (ie early morning dep and afternoon ret) that fit the weather bill and price is Mallorca.

We usually pop over there during the first international break and will be doing the same this year.

That could work - any hotel recs?

There's alcohol restrictions in some Balearic AI hotels but mostly around the young un's party towns, I believe.

….AI options, we rarely go with that.

In terms of resorts we like Port de Soller and Portals Nous. Both grown up relatively quiet places without the youngsters. PDS is more traditional with a traditional town up the road, PN is more “marina, posh boats” type place.

We also go to Cala D’Or quite often, that might have more AI places. Bigger town more “tourist” options, nice marina, far more bars, restaurants etc.

Pushing the flight time a touch to 4 hours but I would consider Turkey. We went to Antalya a few years ago with some friends and had a really good time. Nice mix of beach, culture and lots to do / places to eat and drink.

You'll get great weather that time of year and its as cheap as p1ss out there at the moment getting over 50 lira to £1.

But you'll need to turn a blind eye to their human rights records! Easy if it's cheap I guess.

When the kids were young, Turkey was our destination for about 6-7yrs as it had everything - not been back for a while but well worth some consideration - mad and rude Russians are still holidaying there though...

Probably better off joining Amnesty international if you want to influence that. Not sure a week of meze and Efes will move the needle sadly.

I went to Oludeniz once, nice spot in that Blue Lagoon. Didn't venture too far admittedly but from what I saw of the area if felt a bit Brits abroad for my liking, but maybe I'm doing it an injustice. Like Bali but without the culture.

It's easy to justify when you're saving yourself a few quid.

My daughters probably wouldn't speak to me again if I booked Turkey!

Hi Beardy, I worked in Aghous Nikolaos in Crete back in the day and went back to visit last year. Used to be a party town but is now a lovely little much classier resort with a few bars and great restaurants.

Not all inclusive but the Hotel we stayed at was absolutely fantastic. Great Breakfast, views, and pools with everything walkable. Highly recommend.

I admire their principles tbh, good on them.

The dichotomy is real when money is tight and people want to give their kids guaranteed weather and an enjoyable / affordable summer holiday though. I wouldn't judge any of them.

We were in Cala D’or last June. We absolutely loved it.

Went to a bar on the Marina every evening for a couple of drinks before dinner.

We are going to Menorca in June this year as we love it there.

Then Croatia in early September. Never been there before.

Tui Magiclife in Pizzo, Calabria, Italy

A wonderful relaxing week with a beautiful village just a small taxi ride away.

If you enjoy the TUI Magic Life brand, then I'd highly recommend their site in Sarigerme. Beautiful resort, really laid-back vibe, and a short walk from Sarigerme town for the local amenities. Dalaman Town and Dalyan aren't too far away either, if you want a wider choice.

The airport is only about a 15min transfer and, with the relatively few Brits who head there, we've tended to be booked into a private taxi rather than being lumped on the usual huge coach.

We've done Sarigerme twice and absolutely loved it; particularly the distinct lack of the typical 'AI Brits Abroad' crowd (it was mainly German out there).

We're looking at perhaps doing another Magic Life this year - what was Calabria like? Is it a similar demographic to Sarigerme?
