And I’m not joking.

We’ll be good again... one day

In hindsight it was incredibly arrogant and dumb to not secure a third striker in January and leave a squad place open. Lots of people seem to overlook this as they will broil no criticism of Weird Ashton whatsoever.

We tried to get strikers but ultimately failed. These things happen. It's very hard to recruit a Prem-quality striker... much bigger clubs than us have struggled with it too.

There was nothing arrogant or dumb about it.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Is the lesson here that for some reason Gamechanger can't recruit strikes, even though they can recruit to every other position, or is it that good quality strikers aren't easy to come by? Especially when they are likely coming in to provide cover/competition rather than as the main man? I think it's more likely to be the latter.

My argument would be in every year we missed out on the starter, the number one. I don't think anyone expected Delap to have the impact he had at this level, same with Hirst last season and, although the impact was less, Bonne in 21/22. I'd have thought they would be seen as the second choice options heading into the season if we had acquired the desired targets.
