Our home record makes depressing reading 08:28 - May 11 with 1154 viewsChrisd

1 win, 7pts from 18 matches, 8 consecutive home losses - a new club record - no points at home this year makes woeful reading. Yes, this season was going to be tough, however I never expected us to be so poor at PR this campaign. Who saw that coming?!

Our biggest disappointment is we don't really know how to play at home at this level. On the whole we play a good away game, but don't have a clue at home. The Brentford game was a rare game where we actually had a sustained spell of pressure on the opposition. We must go down and rebuild and come back better. Quality is not there this season, injuries and suspensions aside.

No, I thought, well I was hopeful, our home form would be much better. Especially as you need good home form if you want to survive.

I do think confidence has been key, or rather lack of confidence as the season progressed - don't they say football is 80% confidence, 20% ability.

We started the season with some good performances at home, but the lack of a win slowly drained confidence and worse became a noose around the neck, exacerbated with games like B'mouth at home.
At home there is more on us to drive the performance, Spurs was a perfect example for the entire home season for me. We completely overran them for the first 10-15 minutes, it looked like it wasn't a case of us not winning, more a case of how many we would win by. But we didn't score in that period and then a quick Spurs turnover, with us having numbers up field, results in a Spurs goal. Last season we had the confidence to go 'ok we've conceded but np we'll score soon'. But this season the confidence is shot and within 5 minutes we went from looking like winning by 3 or 4 goals to losing by 5 or 6.

I was waiting until after westham to post about it. But that’s honesty pathetic isn’t it. We’ve not even given ourselves a chance with that home record.

Our midfield was Morsy and Jack Taylor, the latter of whom couldn’t get a game in the division below. Up against one of the most efficient teams in the country. Injuries and Phillips’s total lack of form have killed us stone dead this year and lessons must be learnt.

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

Our complete lack of ability to score when we’re on top in home games has killed us. Going right back to Villa, Man Utd, Leicester - all of which should have been wins. Then more recently Spurs when we missed 3 chances that any other team in this division would probably have scored from.

All very well not being “outclassed” too often but if you can’t score goals when on top, absolutely no chance whatsoever of competing at this level.

Absolutely spot on

Not being outclassed too often yet failing to win is more of a worry for me than if we were getting steamrolled weekly.

These guys can’t help they don’t have the experience needed, but someone somewhere can help that we’ve not identified the players that do have the experience and could have helped.

Things can go wrong and that’s life, but it’s the lessons you learn after that. If we come back up again in 1/2/3/4 years, and we don’t learn from this season then it’ll be really frustrating

1 home win and 7 points will equal the Premier League records if we lose to West Ham. Although if Southampton (6 points) lose at home to Arsenal they will take the fewest home points in a PL season record as well as equalling the 1 home win record.

Midfield and home form are actually key problems. I can't explain it, other than maybe we should have been more defensive at home, Southampton managed it against Man City while we were torn apart.

If we'd mirrored our away record we'd be on 30 points now. Still going down but secure in 18th and with a far more respectable tally.

It is right that McKenna is being asked about the discrepancy and whilst, in public, he's brushed it away each time I think, in reality, he will be looking at this as a key issue.

I feel our biggest problem is our weak midfield and the tactic McKenna deploys in the MF.

We need a complete overhaul and McKenna needs to consider maybe 4-3-3 because we are constantly being over run in midfield, that coupled with a slow and non creative set of midfielders, is always going to see our defence under more pressure and our tontine starved of service. It's not rocket science.

The issue is, as long as we bring in the right people, 4-3-3 shouldn't be required next season. However, if we go back up, we need to be far more flexible than we have this season.

For Leicester, I'd probably go with Morsy, Cajuste and Taylor as a midfield three, with Hutchinson and Enciso either side of Hirst, with the likes of Johnson, Clarke and Delap as options from the bench. But I doubt that will happen. Clarke may come in for Chaplin, and Cajuste for Taylor if ready to start, but that will be that.

Very depressing. Thank god we beat Chelsea that would have been such a bad record to go down with and would have been thrown in our faces a lot I think. Maybe we can do it against WHU as well.

So many missed opportunities when we were playing well earlier in the season at home.

The first year Forest stayed up they had 8 home wins and only 1 away. Such a shame we haven't been more competitive at home.

All the blue tinted glasses in the world don't make up how poor we have been this season. I'm afraid tactically we have been clueless v Chelsea I thought we have learned how to play on the break without to much off the ball 3 centre backs how I was wrong .Hoping McKenna has learned by this including recruitment time will tell.
