Is this the worst season in our history then? 17:26 - May 11 with 2636 viewsvapour_trail

Must be from a statistical perspective. Especially at home. That’s been dreadful. And after 130m spent on recruitment.

Obvs there’s the whole league one journey, fighting against the odds, but it must be our worst season, right?

Maybe some older blues will have something worse?

Is stats the right way to measure it though? Surely the emotional side of it is what really matters. For some, that will make this the worst season in history.

However, having been through the ups and downs of following Town through 6 different decades, there have been far more emotionally scaring seasons - as others have mentioned.

Although disappointed by this season, I’ve actually enjoyed much of it. Our current journey is a great revival story - some would argue a resurrection. Yes, we’ve hit a speed bump, but I see what we’re building, and I’m bought into it. I have that investment, which helps being positive and that brings enjoyment rather than being dejected.

That was the Jewell team that conceded goals for fun. Keith Andrews hit one of his thunderbolts to make it one nil and then we fell apart, 4 or 5 quick goals before half time. Hopeless team. 7-1 final score. Truly depressing game. On the back of that we bought the horrible Paul Taylor from posh when we should have bought George Boyd.

Statistically, yes but that reflects the gulf between the established clubs (even the likes of Brentford, Bournemouth and Brighton at the moment) and those coming up. I'm really not sure that what we've spent is that relevant without looking at what everyone else has been able to spend over recent years.

In 1994-95 and 18-19 we were outclassed but sides we should have been able to get far closer to and, too often, just weren't competitive at all. 2002-02 remains the most frustrating of relegations as we should never have gone down with those players, we even pulled ourselves out of it only to effectively relegate ourselves a second time.

It's still possible we end this season with a better PPG than we did in 18/19, which shows just how terrible a season that was. We managed 5 wins all season and the two 1-0 wins against Wigan and Rotherham were the most low quality, spawny wins I've seen at PR from Town. Think we managed about 5 shots across the two games and largely got battered by teams who were also dreadful. Even if we lose our last two, I still make that our worst season, in my memory at least.

The win at Swansea was the crime of the century. Dan James running at Matthew Pennington, on another day Swansea might have scored 10.

Depends how you're measuring it really.

It's also factually correct to say this was our highest finish since the 2001/2 equivalent.

It's the third season in a row where we've finished higher than previous. Sadly even if we win the league in 25/26, that run is at an end.

We failed to finish higher than the previous season every year between 81/82 and 90/91.

That week of Southampton and Posh takes some beating as a low point. This season, while obviously not good is light years ahead of any of those seasons mentioned. Need to get of to a flyer next season though!

The fact that it's in the Premier League shows that it's not our worst season. Struggling to win games in League 1 is worse... and the years of tedium where we were slowly sinking to the bottom of the Championship playing negative football were worse. I almost gave up my season ticket, which I wouldn't do now.

Not sure why you'd look at it from a purely statistical perspective, unless you just want to revel in misery. Context is hugely important, and from that perspective (including hope for next season) this season doesn't even make the top 10 worst seasons in our history.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Older blues like myself who have been going since 1970 and beyond this is nothing to come from where we were in a short space of time. With what is going on , on the pitch and off it this is a fantastic time to be a Town fan good owners a CEO who communicates great times. When we went down under Lamberg and Evans now that was shi*e.

Statistically it probably is but certainly doesn't feel like the worst. The Hurst/Lambert season will hopefully NEVER be beaten.

Certainly doesn't feel like a "only 4 wins" season. Having been to every away game we've more than competed, picking up results in 9 of the 18 games so far.

1994-95 was the worst one - we had no intent other than hoping for a 0-0 every week. We got our nil most weeks, but the opposition usually filled their boots.

The other worst one was Lambert in the Covid season when we had to watch on the live feeds. That was awful - I hated that season.
Covid kept him in a job for at least another year. I can remember arriving at Wycombe on NYD 2020 and a mate sending a whatsapp to say Lambert had been given a 5 year contract - we thought he was winding us up.... he should have been sacked then.
Fast forward a couple of months and the fans had turned on him by mid-March, before the season was ended due to Lockdown.... had that season continued, he'd have been gone by the end of it. The only time I've considered stopping going to our games and concentrate on the remaining grounds we had for the 92.

Then the season behind closed doors happened, so we couldn't even express our displeasure at the ME / Lambert situation.

Thank god Gamechanger came in in the Spring of 2021.

I like to look at it as 3rd bottom in the Premier League is equivalent to top of the Championship (and 2nd bottom to 2nd place whilst bottom is equivalent to play off winners). That way, 3rd bottom would be higher than last season and could be matched if we were to win the Championship. However, 2nd bottom would only be matching last season's finish but could be bettered next season.

However it is dressed up, we have shown progress season-on-season but only automatic promotion again next season would see that sustained.

42 games then but we did get 27 points so we weren't technically any more outclassed than we have been this season. But yes, it felt far worse.
Yes, we'd failed to score in 7 consecutive games & then we got a consolation goal at Highbury!

That late win v Leeds in 18/19 meant we had a higher points/game than we had in 94/95, just.
Just worked out that if we dont get to 25 points this season, then it will be a poorer points/game than either of those two seasons. So statistically the worst (may be something poorer going back in time!).
But agree, it doesnt feel like anywhere near as uncompetitive as in either of those seasons, we have been competitive and in every game we have played good football in patches and created chances.

In 94/95 we went on a massive long run without even scoring a goal, which felt even more desperate.
At least in 18/19 there were patches (after Lambert took over, after we brought in players in late Jan/Feb) where there was a bit of belief we might put something together. I dont think there was ever that belief in 94/95 because the tone had already been set the previous season and we played such a dire style of football it felt inevitable.
