The ridiculous shytehousery in the penalty box at corners CAN be ended…. 09:19 - May 12 with 2720 views | ArnieM | The quickest way to end the ridiculous free for all in the penalty box at corners, is for the refs to blow his whistle and hand out 3-4 yellow cards…. Commence play, fouls re committed, second bookings and OFF. Yes it’ll make the game a 5 a side for a few games but the game is a farce in its current state anyway. Players being banned (several players in a team) for a game or two will sharpen the mind if they know they will be booked and eventually sent off. This is totally down to the players.

The ridiculous shytehousery in the penalty box at corners CAN be ended…. on 19:04 - May 12 with 431 views | Exiled2Surrey | On the subject of ‘housery - wasn’t there a directive earlier this season about only the captain speaking to the referee? That certainly hasn’t lasted - the Brentford players had at least three around the official pretty much the whole time. TBH I don’t think it always helped their cause, but it grinds my gears to see it. I also wonder whether the fact that van den berg went down like the proverbial sack of whatever in an earlier challenge with Delap, holding his head, only to make a miraculous recovery, whether that might have counted against him in some of the later incidents - I would hope so

The ridiculous shytehousery in the penalty box at corners CAN be ended…. on 15:11 - May 12 by GeoffSentence | If you recall they tried something like that a few seasons ago, possibly the season we went down to league one. It was highly advertised that grappling in the box would lead to free kicks or penalties. It lasted about two weeks. We were the only team I can recall having a penalty awarded against them for grappling in the box. next week it was all forgotten. |
I seem to remember Knudsen away at Reading in a televised match. The ref gave him a warning and then pointed to the spot immediately as the corner was taken. edit - this game I think: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37253237 Also Vincent-Young away at Lincoln in the promotion season. It might be better in the Championship with no VAR, so if refs have the balls , more free kicks and penalties might be given.

The ridiculous shytehousery in the penalty box at corners CAN be ended…. on 15:31 - May 12 by Sharkey | Or say that both teams need to have two (three?) outfield players in the centre circle when the corner is taken. |
That short corner idea sounds like great fun for the spectator, but would perhaps result in cavalry-charge type collisions and injuries.

The ridiculous shytehousery in the penalty box at corners CAN be ended…. on 07:35 - May 13 with 232 views | gosblue | It's simple. The league needs to layout what is and isn't allowed. Deliberately running into someone with no attempt to go around is illegal. Using your arms to deliberately make your profile bigger and preventing an opponent from running around you is or should be illegal. Holding is illegal. Impeding the goalkeeper is illegal. As others have said, allow the kick to be taken and let VAR do its job. Brentford should have had a penalty but the goal should have been disallowed. Defenders soon learned to keep their arms close to their bodies, once the handball rule was explained to them.
The ridiculous shytehousery in the penalty box at corners CAN be ended…. on 09:41 - May 13 with 193 views | NthQldITFC | Rule 923.7a from next season, I hear: At the awarding of a corner kick, all twenty outfield players are fitted with a large elastic band which will hold the arms tightly to the sides. Established teams are allowed a radio controlled release mechanism on the band which will mean that their bands can pop off the moment the ball is kicked, whereas players of promoted clubs will have to pair up to release each other from their bands.

The ridiculous shytehousery in the penalty box at corners CAN be ended…. on 12:35 - May 12 by monty_radio | But now that the refs and all the ex-players on co-comms, seem to see a certain amount of push-pull as acceptable or even, in the case of the old pros, desirable, in the modern game, the authorities need to step back and consider what they want to see. While it was Greaves' rugby tackle that caught everyone's attention, the Brentford attackers seem to have a free pass to begin the fun by pushing any defender who stood in their way, although, according to the rules, it's not illegal just to stand your ground. But it gives the attacker a passport to trying his luck without jeopardy, while , for the defender, there's always the lurking threat of a penalty. |
I actually thinks its reasonable to penalise defenders by awarding another corner (which can be a goalscoring opportunity in themselves) and penalise attackers with a freekick to defending team. Feels like a fair and proportionate balance of deterrents in my opinion.. Unless a penalty-worthy offense is committed... Which is where VAR could prove its worth.

That the one early on? We got the ball and were breaking only for the ref to halt play, their play bounced back up right as rain, restart with an uncontested drop ball but the Brentford team all now nicely back in position to defend.

Yup - clutched his head, complained like crazy about the unfairness of the challenge but in reality was simply beaten in the air by Delap. Mbuemo did something similar in the second half - bit of ankle clutching after a tackle, sees that he is not getting the foul, jumps up and makes a tackle in midfield Utterly shameless
