I might be swimming against the (hysterical) tide a bit here... 09:25 - May 19 with 771 viewsLinners

...but I quite enjoyed a lot of how we played yesterday. Maybe my expectations have taken a kicking in the last few months but it was just nice to see us starting to play a bit more like we have done over the last couple of years - creating chances and building pressure.

There are loads of caveats to that of course, not least the result, but when you bear in mind how much more PL experience that Leicester team has got and all the players we've got to add when they recover from injuries then I'm not remotely concerned about playing them again next season.

Automatic promotion should of course be the target, top 6 the expectation. About time we had a trip to Wembley...

Yes we played ok. We're certainly the better team, but our shooting was awful. We seemed more concerned with maximum power than placement. So frustrating. Their keeper didn't have to make many saves as we just couldn't hit the target. Argggggggggh

Agreed especially in the final third, if anything trying too hard was our downfall.

No - you're not alone. I said something similar in another thread.

We had the majority of the attacking threat, but poor finishing and a couple of defensive/goalkeeping weaknesses let us down. The latter needs 'fixing', but overall we played some good football.

Apart from the fact that it was part of the PL fixtures list.

Correct,
The way it was played I was referring to (pushed the add button before I finished writing) was it was much more open and players were not closing down so fast like they do in the premiership, more time and space,

Where we really struggled again imo was the final pass, rather than the final shot. Lots of promising build-up until the space disappeared around the oppo box, then unable to present anybody with a good chance to score.

Is this what people generally mean when they bemoan us not taking our chances? Because our finishing has been one of the few strong points this season relative to others. We're joint 11th for conversion rate on 10%, with goals scored above xG.

A block fell kindly to Omari on the half volley yesterday - that's the only one I can remember in the second half where I thought our player should have scored. Every other effort on goal was with a defender directly in front, off-balance, from a highly optimistic angle, or offside. Other PL teams would have carved out glorious shooting opportunities from the same positions but we couldn't.

Broadhead probably missed the clearest chance of the game imho.

Think SS would have had a field day yesterday as he's probably the most clinical finisher on our books

Yes absolutely. I think our biggest issues this season have been (to use that coaches phrase) on transition, at both ends. We have those moments where we break the lines and are 3 on 3 or similar, and we hold the ball for too long, play the wrong pass, make the wrong run etc. We don't create those shooting opportunities as often as we should do. Opposition teams are much more clinical in those situations against us. Just off the top of my head I'm thinking Forest / Palace / Newcastle / Spurs at home.

The fairly early chance that released Davis into the box, the cutback was all typical of how Chappers clinically used to polish them off.... if i recall correctly Enciso either blazed it over or took a touch but i know we obviously didnt score ......doesn't matter if its league one, championship or Premier League... its a pattern of play/muscle memory chance that previously we'd gobble up but too often this year weve snatched at!
