This season in Cricket terms. 18:06 - May 25 with 753 views | Melford | You are a sh!t hot young gun batsman, you blaze your way through county 2s and get promoted to play for the first team. Smash it all about playing County Championship with an average like Bradman's. Then you get picked for England. You aren't facing 70mph trundlers anymore, they're bowling 20 clicks faster than anything you've ever faced and they've done their homework on you. They've watched every time you've got out back on video and they will have seen a pattern, a weakness. He can't play spin/the short stuff/left-arm bowlers and they will be ready for you. You go out to bat and you aint at Chelmsford with barely a thousand in the ground and about the same watching on Youtube anymore..

Nice. Always good to see a local connection fo well. When I was growing up, there was a lovely little, lilly-pad festooned lake at Holbrook by the mill there that I learnt to fish on. I caught my first tench and first carp there and then some a-hole bought the place and stopped the fishing and banned the public from the site. And I fell hopelessly and unsuccessfully in love with a girl out that way. As for local connections to Holbrook, that’s all I’ve got

Lathwell? He was one of the most exciting and gifted batsmen in the world, but his temperament was not equal to his ability. After he retired he became a postman.

Took forever before he got the chance to play and then was very ordinary when got to play for England. Once he got back in there he was fairly handy, though. Needed a reset. Let's hope that's what this is for us too.

I think you mean Royal Hospital School in Holbrook but that's great to hear Graham Napier is meant to be a really good coach

Yes, sorry about messing up the school's name. Allison always speaks so highly of Napier. it warms my Colchester heart to have a north Essex player doing well in the team again, . the first since Ben Foakes, pride of Tendring.. And nice to hear Gooch in a long interview on Saturday saying the aim is always to have players from east London, Essex and East Anglia (Suffolk, Cambs, Norfolk, he spelt it out) as the heart of the team.
