Switzerland has enough nuclear bunkers to shelter the entire population!

Will be feeling a bit envious should sirens go off and we are all rushing to squeeze into the 'secret' one at Kelvedon.

I'm pretty certain most of Scandinavian countries are the same. Most Swiss nuclear bunkers are used for storage so a bit ineffectual.

I discovered the other day there's one at Alderton. Dubtractor may have a place booked.

It’s big enough to drive articulated lorries in.

….and also quite full of Christmas decorations.

They are properly prepared though. In all sorts of ways.

When I rent a chalet in Switzerland they all have them. Proper heavy duty with massive doors which seal perfectly. They usually use them as ski storage etc.

I've watched quite a lot of end-of-world disaster movies to know that if you're a Hollywood actor you'll survive whatever happens.

Don't believe a word I say. I'm only kidding. Or am I?

Er, I’m not sure that’s particularly good news for us

Some parents in Austria have them too.

I lived there for seventeen years. When we bought our chalet it didn’t have its own shelter so I was required to pay a contribution for a family place in a shelter run by the commune. I duly paid the fee but when I sold up and left some seventeen years later still had no idea where my designated place was, or whether it even existed.

At the international school where I worked we had a great shelter with huge heavy airtight doors. We used it as a drum practice room for the musicians!

On another note the Swiss army had huge underground bunkers that could house an army to defend the alpine passes from Italy. They were open to private tours a couple of times each year.

If Armagedon strikes I plan to hide in the wilderness that is Paxton Pits Nature Reserve and arm myself with a big dog trained to sniff out terminator type robots pretending to be human. I'm confident I'll be fine as there is a CoOp just down the road if it turns out that I'm sh1t at foraging and hunting.

I hope they all get sufficient warning before the russian ballistic nuclear weapons hit, to get inside a bunker.
