Hmmm. Swansea? 15:19 - Jun 14 with 1931 views | thebooks | I dunno. Doesn’t seem right he’s going to a smaller (no offence!) Champ club.
Hmmm. Swansea? on 15:38 - Jun 14 with 1788 views | Swansea_Blue | Much smaller in terms of budget and prospects this season. That’s quite an odd one. They don’t have a pot to piddle in, so I can’t imagine they’ve offered a particularly large contract. Maybe we’re going to sign Konate or Van Dijk lol

Hmmm. Swansea? on 16:10 - Jun 14 with 1625 views | RegencyBlue | If he stayed here he was going to play second fiddle to Greaves. I’m surprised he’s gone to Swansea but it may be they offered regular first team football and nobody else did.
Hmmm. Swansea? on 16:13 - Jun 14 with 1591 views | ArnieM | I think thus is a protest departure by Burgess. He wasn't ( Imho) treated particularly fairly by McKenna ( not the only player from the promotion squad to get benched last season) . So i fully understand why hes left...... but Swansea?? Really? Given the types of club thst have been after him....

Hmmm. Swansea? on 16:23 - Jun 14 with 1509 views | ArnieM | I felt Burgess was actually better than Greaves , especially after Greaves cam bavk from injury as never seemed the same player to me. Maybe an opr ing fir Baggott to establish himself as competition now?

Hmmm. Swansea? on 16:23 - Jun 14 with 1509 views | Garv | I was about to challenge that by saying they've been in the PL more recently than us. Still a bit weird to think we've just had a season there.

Hmmm. Swansea? on 16:36 - Jun 14 with 1416 views | burnbudgiesburn | I think Burgess was just as good as Greaves last season, with maybe a better range of long passing. But he's going to be 30 shortly after the start of the new season, and we clearly think Jacob has a higher ceiling and is younger. From his perspective he has clearly chosen that being first choice on a longer contract at his age was preferable to playing maybe 10-20 games as back up here. Probably got a relatively decent signing on fee as well.

Hmmm. Swansea? on 22:08 - Jun 14 with 1004 views | EastLondonBlue | We want better quality in the team so that if (when) we do go up to the prem again we have the players to stay there. Great guy, fantastic pro, but not prem quality - watch this space I guess…. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

A protest departure? He will have gone with whatever was the best offer for him, his career and his family etc He's not joining Swansea to make a statement to McKenna!

He was better than Greaves in every department in my view. Greaves impressed more at LB than he did at CB. But he's the prospect I guess and the one we were always going to go with in the Championship. Burgess would have probably wanted an incredible contract to convince him to stay and sit on the bench. Don't like the idea that we'll play against him next season.

Hmmm. Swansea? on 04:30 - Jun 15 with 609 views | charlie1 | Likely a guarantee of first team football in the season leading up to a World Cup. Doesn’t explain why Swansea as I’m sure other clubs would have given him the same assurances, but highly likely McKenna couldn’t give him that.

Swansea forum pleased with the signing but upset by being described at "pot to piddle in" which takes over most of the narative from there.
Hmmm. Swansea? on 06:50 - Jun 15 with 473 views | PioneerBlue | No point looking down our noses at Swansea. Everyone starts as equal in the most unrelenting league in the world! Ipswich is at a turning point. Cam realised a dream playing in the prem when frankly no one would have imagined that following some of his early games. KMcK and the coaches really found the quality in him and he’s obviously been a great club guy. Greaves however is the future and we forget how many goals we conceded in the last Championship season. I looked it up, about the the same as Hull down in eighth. I’m pleased he gets a gig with game time, surprised it’s Swansea, slightly sad he couldn’t find a way to go year by year with us. Go well Cam.

then he's a bit of an arrogant so and so then, because McKenna made it clear we were playing as a squad of players all of whom had roles to play, and some would have to sit on the bench, be rotated in to games and fight for their places in the team, which players like Hirst took the challenge on perfectly and there was nothing Burgess did last season that made me think McKenna got it wrong, and that he was some premier league quality defender in disguise. alot of the Burgess love comes from the promotion seasons and how well he played in the championship, and we thank him for that, not what he did last season I suspect the reality is his agent was trying to get an improved deal out of Town, and chucked alot of higher linked clubs, none of whom were interested to get us to bite, and Swansea literally probably were the only actual other offer on the table. I mean thats the reality if the guy is such a great defender that McKenna has apparently not seen, why have none of the newly promoted sides signed him instead ? why have none of the other championship teams saw an opportunity to buy him ? it wasnt a secret his contract was up and was clearly stalling on signing Towns offer.

It's really not. It's very simple he said it himself he has to do what is right for his family. They offered a three year deal. We didn't. No other clubs seem to have offered him an equivalent deal so no choice. We would have been mad to offer him three years. He is 30 is not a premier league defender and we are looking to be back there next year.
