If Omari and Axel leave…. 11:03 - Jun 23 with 3570 views | Horsham | And it’s beginning to feel like they likelier will than won’t, I think it’ll be tricky replacing them. Ramblings below We have pretty good options in the building already. Take right back, we have Johnson and who may not have pulled up trees last last season but ultimately still been good enough in his career to do a job in the PL over a number of seasons. We also have Clarke, and again he’s not always been perfect but ultimately still was good enough to be Sheff U’s first choice RB. It’s even more complex with Omari, where we already have 4 other big signings (and in this theory elite championship players) in Clarke, Philogene, Ogbene and Szmodics plus the 3 who were good enough to make a massive contribution to us getting to the PL. That’s a pretty decent amount of quality even without Omari. So I guess the challenge would be to sign players better than Johnson and the 4 we brought in last season or stick with the players we already have in the building. Have a half a thought that if Omari and Axel go we might not replace them directly and instead focus recruitment in other areas.

If Omari and Axel leave…. on 11:44 - Jun 23 by wrightsrightglove | I think we’ll actually see less leave than I initially anticipated (I thought Davis and O’Shea might go but now not so sure). I think it’ll look something like the below. Hopefully Ogbene is ready for the new season to challenge for the right wing spot, burns I assume will take a bit longer. Broadhead might go as well. So I make that 5/6 signings, 3 permanent, 2/3 loans. We should be able to focus on real quality which improves us moving forwards Out: Delap, Omari, Muric (European loan), Slicker (loan), Harness, Al-Hamadi, Luongo, Tuanzebe, Burgess In: 1 x LCB, 2 x CM, 1st choice striker, young 3rd choice striker I think our starting 11 will be: Palmer Johnson - O’Shea - Greaves - Davis New - Morsy Philogene - Szmodics - Clarke New ST Second 11: Walton Clarke - Wolf - New CB - Townsend New - Taylor Ogbene - Chaplin - Broadhead Hirst Squad: Young GK, Burns, Kone or similar, Humphries (if not loaned) |
I’ve got a George Hirst on the phone for you. He would like a word….

Ha, I’m hoping he smashes it this season but I just worry about his injuries. I think we’ll need someone who is at least at his level if not an improvement so that we’re not solely relying on him

That’s fair and I agree, but for me Hirst has to be the initial first choice and 2nd striker a close second. If Hirst stays fit I believe the bids for him in January will be Delapesque….he makes us a far better team.

If Omari and Axel leave…. on 11:29 - Jun 23 by Guthrum | I may have missed something in the last week, but why does it seem likelier that Hutchinson and Tuanzebe will leave than stay? [Post edited 23 Jun 11:30]

I dont know, obviously, but I would postulate Omari is more likely to attract attention from PL than injury plagued Axel (I say this even though with are high up my list of favourite players at the club right now). £35m release clause sounds a lot, but you a PL looking for a youngster that is improving season on season and is the right end of his 2nd decade, I'd say hus ceiling is pretty high. Axel is different. He's without doubt, true PL class. His problem for possible suitors is do they chance his injury record. For me, husvrevord consists of a bavk injury which was fully rehabed by Town. Then x 2 hamstring injuries ( probably the same hamstring), which seemed to have plagued so many of our squad last season . The question should be why so many? His thumb injury was just bad luck and nothing to do with football. But I suspect the bigger PL will not chance him now. But others may do. If they don't, Axel may be of the mind to maximise his income via frequent transfers between now and the end of his career? So in essence, unfortunately I can see two very good players leaving... make that three, when O' Shea jumps ship too if approached by say Leeds or Sunderland... we are very close to needing a rebuild all over again.

If Omari and Axel leave…. on 15:12 - Jun 23 with 289 views | greyhound | I get the sentiment of the OP and maybe it's negative of me but I kind of expected players to want to play at the highest level available and if the club is reaping any sort of profit on that then I'm happier to have a squad of players that want to be here. If we are to yo yo for a few seasons this will happen but it should fund continuous club investment, the doors will revolve, new favourites will arrive. The loan players never were ours and are the equivalent of pushing a problem to a later date, relegation and the loss of loan players means we have compounded a recruitment issue if people as mentioned in the op are snapped up. As long as we don't have a fire sale I'm comfortable, and also excited at who we bring in to continue building. I'm more than happy to be told I'm wrong on this and here other angles.

If Omari and Axel leave…. on 11:23 - Jun 23 by Denny32 | It's moat likely now that omari, axel. And cajuste, and possibly o shea will all leave, plus the others that have gone,ie delap ,Phillips enciso..burgess we are now down to the Bare bones of championship side which on the face of it will be just about competitive in the new season..what mckenna does next will be interesting. Does he get in players with Premier ship experience and if we get back to Premier ship then we will be in a better place and more ready than having to gel in a lot of new players from the start and be caught cold and then playing catch up ..or if he just brings in younger players and just about gets us out of the league be it autos or play off s.well then it's a half another build of new players to help us compete. And basically we are back to deja vu...Will we have more physical robust players this time and not being easily pushed around, or wil mckenna do similar Again as regards just bringing in technically gifted players regardless of size..?? it will be interesting to see how the summer recruitment goes..will definitely give us an insight in to his way of thinking about how to prepare better ,having had the experience of playing with the big boys... |
I heard from somebody in the know that we already have a few bases covered. Jay Tabb has given up his current job as an occasional table to return to the club. Jonathan Douglas has also agreed to return - he’s kept his boots because they were never used much last time around. He’s assured the manager he’s not lost any pace. Oli Hawkins is available and Kevin Nolan has been released by Macclesfield and reckons he could ‘do a job’. I gather the club is in danger of FFP breeches and is having to fire sale everybody and everything. Mick has offered his services as barrel scraper in chief after his experiences with dementor Evans. The new media Darth Vader structure in the corner is being transported to Tehran, as they’re a building or two short, for £30 and a bottle of ginger beer. Crazee is off to the glue factory, Ashton is auctioning his hard hat for charity and selling his teeth as pastry cutters. We’re doomed! Dooomed I tell ya!! | | | | Login to get fewer ads
