Women’s games confirmed for Col U stadium 12:02 - Jun 23 with 2508 viewsMatt_Netherlands

I know someone mentioned this this other days…

Feels like attendances will take quite a hit? Especially as the women’s games seem to have quite a community feel to them.

I wasn't sure if Colchester have a women's team, but read they do.

They play at Colchester Garrison B Ground, a 12 minute walk dorm Colchester Town Station.

That would have been a great site for the ground when Colchester left Layer Road, or across the Merses Rd in the Goojerat barracks. Housing nowadays. Also think the harrison ground would have made a great place for a top East Anglian cricket ground, playing at least ODI's.

Honestly still think it's a shocking decision. The only tiny positive is hidden right within the article that says over the two years, we will sourcing a permanent home 'in the Ipswich area'.

Reads like it won't be Portman Road and I don't really understand why we seem to be overcomplicating it. I'm sure we could get the pitch at PR to handle the extra games.

I doubt the pitch is the problem, but the costs of running Portman Road for a game, even at reduced capacity, when your only charging £6 a ticket

I think their U18s used to play there. I went to a match at the Garrison once certainly.

I thought it was a daft decision when I heard about it and it still doesn't sit quite right.

Hooever, let's say you lived at Toys R Us roundabout in Ipswich which is close to the Orwell Bridge and strategically placed for travel to Felixstowe.

From that point, The Colchester stadium is almost exactly the same distance as the Felixstowe home (in fact its about 200 yards nearer)

The travel time is also pretty much the same.

There is one thing in common though - neither is in Ipswich so if you look at it logically there really isn't any difference, in fact you could argue it's a bigger non ITFC catchment area.

I suppose most people going to the matches are ones who live nearby or find it easy to get to. In recent years it was people in Felixstowe, who travel by public transport or who like visiting Felixstowe for a day out (like me). The next two years will be people who live near Colchester and perhaps a few drivers from Ipswich. After that it could be a third set of fans, depending where the new home in Ipswich is and how appealing it is to go there i.e. walkable, public transport links, pubs/cafes nearby.

It will be very interesting to see what the attendances are in Colchester. Felixstowe would have been 1,000 to 2,000 I think. Portman Road, perhaps 3,000 to 4,000 but hard to say.

Although I take an interest in the ladies results I have only seen them once and that was at Portman Rd.

I haven't attempted to go to Felixstowe as I possibly wrongly assume that they are all sell outs. I would probably go to Colchester because I know I could get a ticket, although the downsides are a/the atmosphere might be a bit poor, b/ I would have to drive and c/it's not in Suffolk.

Not sure there was a whole host of alternatives though, would BSE have been an option? Do they have a stadium of sorts?.....

.....although that's further than Colchester.

Col U as a club despise us - that's the starting point. Then add in the distance and the fact it's a different county. Not good. What about Bury, needham or Leiston at options? Not a good decision in my opinion

None are up to the standard required by the FA.
