I'm trying to trace a copy of a local newspaper from the notorious relegation (yep the 9-0 season). I remember going to a night game with friends from school; it was when the players were due to do their lap of honour but that didn't happen due to the mood of the crowd. Obviously given the season that we'd had it obviously didn't go down well, there was a bit of antagonism from the stewards as far as I recall, and everyone spilled out from the North stand on to the pitch. Much chanting of "sack the board" etc ensued.
Does anybody recall?
I'm guessing it was the game vs Everton that we lost 0-1 which sounds about right. That was on the 9th of May 1995 so am looking for newspapers for the 10th.
I have checked out the East Anglian from The Hold down on the Waterfront. Wonderful facility, just ran out of time so will need to go back. I'm now planning on finding the Ipswich Star.
Bit I'm interested in is a back-page (I think) picture of the crowd on the pitch and a young group of schoolboy football fans front-and-centre in the picture!
Great memory would be nice to find it.

Not sure that happened in 1995. The last home game was traditionally run on the pitch and applaud the away fans. There were certainly pitch protests at the end of the 93/94 season but they were against Mick McGiven's brand of football.

Ah interesting, thanks for that. I might have jumped to the wrong conclusion then - presumed the ill feeling was to do with the relegation. I definitely recall the chants to sack the board - was 93/94 seen as that bad a season considering we stayed up? Maybe it was in fairness!

Definitely 93-94 as that was my first pick invasion (my cousin's too: he fell on his face hurdling the hoardings). Think it was after we played Swindon iirc.

I do recall that match. The pitch invasion would have been the last of the traditional end of season pitch invasions. There were chants of “sack the board” (certainly not Burley out) amongst the crowd.

It was following the Swindon match. That was the only season I maintained a scrapbook for. What an awful season to do such a thing.

... not sure why they are in that corner where the Swindon fans are (or were before they went home). i recall it being in the corner where the players enter the pitch, but that may have been the previous game (Coventry)
There was one following the Coventry game which ended in a 0-3 or 1-3 (can’t remember, Ndlovu tore us apart) on Easter Monday 1994 if I remember correctly due to the McGiven performances. Everyone went on from the North Stand and congregated by the tunnel.
The following home game was the 1-2 defeat to Man Utd when Phil Whelan picked up his nasty injury.

Yep, I was there. 1-0 defeat to Everton, and on the pitch we went like we often did for the last game. I don't remember it being ill tempered though as by then we'd long accepted our situation.
The main protest was Lyalls last game when we lost at home against Man City in December, I think?
We went over to the Everton fans in the Cobbold and sang songs at each other in one of those mutual respect moments, wished them luck in the Cup Final, they sang back at us how we'd be back soon, lots of applauding, cut to Town fans skipping down Princes Street with their new Scouse chums. (That last bit might be a bit of exaggeration).
I do remember there being the promise of a "lap of honour", but as soon as the pitch was invaded, there was a somewhat haughty announcement that this was now cancelled.
I can't see what such a lap of honour would have achieved tbh. Too many of the players in that team just couldn't be bothered, and we knew it. It wasn't like the season just gone where, yes, we were rubbish, but by and large you can't fault the effort.

Yes! That was my recollection - seemed ill-advised to suggest the lap of honour given the season they had! 🤷🏻♂️
