Any experts on getting crazy quotes down? Thankfully not for me, my ex's lad(21) has just been quoted £370 A MONTH! I pay that a year lol..

If Anyone can help and get this crazy premium right down, I'll sort you out with a new Town shirt..

Trouble is - Insurance depends on so many factors. His record, home address, the car etc.

My advice is to look around, do the leg work on the comparison sites or maybe even speak to human-being at somewhere like Howden/A Plan (I can give you a contact if you want - PM me) - Also, its definitely worth looking at a black box or driving monitor.

Four tips from me:

1) Compare the comparison sites. I tend to run my quotes through the four major players (Confused, Go Compare, Money Supermarkt, and Compare the Market) and there are often major differences in what is being charged through each intermediary for the same cover with the same insurer.

2) If he's employed, be creative with the job title. Don't lie, but certainly see what different variations will do to the premium.

3) Add an older named driver with a decent record.

4) Consider absolutely maxing out the excess, depending on the value of the car. Given the likely impact on future premiums, do you see a claim being made if the need arises?

You ain't a beauty but, hey, you're alright.

Make sure you clear cookies or do anonymous search if using the comparison websites.

No idea when I began here, was a very long time ago. Previously known as Spirit_of_81. Love cheese, hate the colour of it, this is why it requires some blue in it.

It's going to be expensive. Largely the comparison sites have similar insurers and cover 90% of the market. The things that will make a difference if he's just past his test are the name the insurance is under. Some insurers will let you/your ex insure the car and add the younger person as a named driver (this can depend on access to other vehicles etc...) which is a way to get some experience. If they've had some experience already as a named driver then speak to a person (somewhere like Adrian Flux) and they will be able to underwrite something more bespoke.
Alternatively looking direct at Admiral - they do some 10m policies which mean you pay the premium for a shorter period and most companies accept as 1yrs NCB, or Tesco's/Direct Line were always OK for first time drivers as long as the car wasn't crazy.
A few insurers used to also offer a discount for "Pass Plus" which was a little additional course you could do once passed your test (not sure if this is still a thing) or adding a parent on the policy but those weren't big savers more like 10/15%

Yeah thats a good tip - I added mrs ullaa and got a couple of hundred off the price of me alone.

Also, comprehensive is cheaper than third party only, for me at least.

Has anyone ever looked at their own postings for last day or so? Oh my... so sorry. Was Ullaa

I did point 3 for my son, as an older responsible male (maybe), also put it on a black box policy, got a decent rate, the old fella's done good. Two weeks later I borrowed his car. A day later and they had cancelled his policy because of my driving. Completely forgot about the black box and drove my usual speed which wasn't to the liking of Herr Blackbox of the Gestapo. Every year now he has to tick the box which starts "have you ever had an insurance poilcy cancelled ..."

Try multi-car if your insurer does it - we ended up with a good deal for us and my daughter with Admiral even after she had a 50/50 prang under her previous policy.

As previous posters have alluded too there are many factors that make up the quote(s) you have been given.

His age, the car, address, his no claims bonus, previous claims and convictions. Adding additional mature drivers. Having a black box or driving app installed. Without a bit more info on say the car for example it really is difficult to assist, other than comparison sites will all come out very similar.

If it is a renewal and not first insurance use the 3 weeks before it is due for the best terms. And if it is the first then get quotes for the 3 weeks hence and he will have to wait as passing your test and getting insurance immediately is gonna kill

My daughters friends all use marmalade and say its good - I can't vouch or not. I use admiral and that seems quite cheap to have my oldest on the insurance whilst she is learning
