Neurodiversity - a natural occurrence 11:59 - Jul 14 with 1037 views | blueasfook | After I got a bee's nest in my garden, I became fascinated by how bees work. The beekeeper who came to collect them told me some interesting facts about bees and I was amazed how awesome these little creatures are so have been reading up on them. One thing I have discovered is among the worker bees - the ones who go off and look for pollen sources - you will occasionally get one who is neurodivergent. IE. One who doesn't follow the hive mind and goes off and does his own thing. These bees are actually fundamental to the survival and growth of the hive as these bees will discover new pollen sources to ensure the future of the hive. Follow me for more interesting bee facts. No, but I think many perceive it as something "gone wrong" but my point is it's a natural evolutionary occurrence - in the case of bees at least.

Neurodiversity - a natural occurrence on 15:13 - Jul 14 with 542 views | Kropotkin123 | Yesterday I was laying on the grass as my son played near. I rolled over there was a sharp pain on my ankle. I didn't clue in straight away that it was pain as I wasn't expecting to feel pain. A bit like the difference of knowingly and unknowingly burning yourself. You react quicker to one than the other. Anyway, turns out I rolled into a bee and the bee didn't like getting squashed, so it stung me in defense. It flew off and I when to the pharmacy. That's my bee fact. [Post edited 14 Jul 15:16]

Bees will sting on their own if they feel individually threatened. If you go near the hive however, they release a pheromone that will invoke a swarm attack.

Man walks into a pet shop and says “I’d like a bee please”. The staff member replies “sorry Sir, we don’t sell bees”, to which the customer replies “well, you’ve got one in the window”.

I was on a conference day out somewhere near Mount Rainier a long while back and some lass with 80s frizz hair like Cher got attacked by a hornet that then got stuck in her hair. She made some very strange noises. Not pretty. I think that's my only bad hornet experience (although it was a lot better than hers - I just had to run away lol).
