Strict contract negotiations 10:39 - Jul 15 with 1083 viewskizaitfc

I get we can't be held to ransom on contracts but it does feel we seem to tie our hands a little.

Hladky last year
Morsy and Burgess this year (potentially Axel)

I understand the reasonings given age and the player recruitment strategy, but if we look at last season for example and improved contract offer must have been cheaper then the money spent on Music and then the addition of Palmer (fee and wages).

Poll: Mick in or out? (not a dig at Mick just want to see the overall opinion on here)

What do you know that we don't?

If we had really wanted to keep Hladky then I'm sure we could have done.

From what I was told Morsy hasn't been offered new terms.

There's a multitude of reasons though.

- They want to play regularly week in, week out and another club can guarantee that
- They want to play at the highest level
- Geography/location; they want to be closer to a particular geographical area
- Longest deal on the table given their age for financial security/young family
- Money is too good to turn down

I think all the players you've mentioned, each one of them would be able to pick one of those reasons for why they moved.

Hladky wouldn't have been good enough for the PL. Axel wanted to go back to the NW. Burgess wanted to play regularly week in, week out ahead of the World Cup next summer - something I doubt would've happened here. Morsy is probably wanting more security over his contract.

Difference here though is Morsy isn't actually out of contract. I'd like to think if Axel still had a year left we wouldn't countenance letting him go for nothing.

We must be very, very confident we have a couple of decent signings up our sleeves.

The chances of Hladky starting last season as our number 1 were always going to be close to zero even if he'd signed a new deal.

No he isn't, that's true. But if he wants security over his contract, the thinking would've started this summer.

I don't know the details, but if I was to have a guess, I think the cards would've been left on the table from the club saying that a new deal won't be offered, but they're not actively pushing him out of the club, but more of a mutual agreement that if a better offer is on the table that ensures longer term security than his Ipswich contract, he will explore it.

Kuwait FC have probably offered him a longer term deal along with other factors that won't be made public, and that's what he's chosen to do. I don't blame him, I'm sure most would do the same for more stability with a young family.

He was good enough and better than all those that we subsequently tried. Admittedly Prem is a different league, but he'd have been OK.

Disagree, I don't think he was good enough for the Prem and neither did the management. He did really well for us in the Championship but conceded some soft goals, especially over the second half of the season. He was great with his feet but in all other aspects of goalkeeping, he's below the three senior keepers we had on our books last season. He didn't command his area at all and his shot stopping was very hit and miss.

We have been daft in the past rewarding players for them to get badly injured or dip in form Huew being a good example Bullard
