Omari - new contract coming his way..? 10:46 - Jul 15 with 2164 views | IPSWICHFANITFC | The club cannot offer him a new deal that removes the current release clause, but if he remains an Ipswich player beyond the expiry of the release clause, then I'm guessing conversations with his representatives will have taken place regarding a new bumper contract to ensure he stays with us? Keeping Omari will be the best business we can do this summer.

That's what I'm thinking. Financially I'm sure there's no barriers in the way for the club to offer him a lucrative contract that would even compete with wages that a PL side would offer, it's just whether he's happy to play Championship football for at least another season with Ipswich.

We're bringing in substantially less revenue now until we hopefully return to the top flight. I'm guessing we didn't scrimp last summer when we made him our record signing. I can better see southnorth's point about renegotiating release terms if we need/want to appease him.

A new contract could scrap the relegation wage reduction (40% across the board so I was told). New deal with a non-promotion release clause that activates on 1st June 2026. He would be a bit daft not to sign it really if we are dead set on him not going once that release clause window shuts. [Post edited 15 Jul 12:52]

Sounds good if it's workable and doesn't stick a wedge through squad cohesion - any levers that keep him happy and here while keeping us on a safe footing get my approval aha. I'm just a bit mindful that the available spend has suddenly decreased a lot, while we also have a fair bit of recruitment to do still.

It may not be necessary if he's happy and wants to stay. However, I think he will want to be playing PL football next season, so I feel we will need to offer something better than what he's currently earning in order to guarantee he is here this season. I don't often feel this way with many players, but I feel we need Omari more than Omari needs us, so hopefully we keep him and do everything we can to keep him.

I agree. A new deal with wages close to his PL wage (perhaps meet in the middle of the 40% decrease you've mentioned) with a clause that protects the player next summer if we fail to get promotion. Otherwise, Ashton has to increase the price tag for the rest of this window with little negotiation. If a club is desperate, they'll pay it.

Yes, maybe we reduce the clause if we don't get promoted this season. High calibre players who see themselves as top flight performers don't want to get stuck in the championship. Pleased to see in Phils report it mentioned that 'Town have no intention of selling Hutchinson this summer' that is unless the clause is met of course.

Was reading your post - all makes sense and then see the poll below about Jackson playing wide and being happy with Garbutt. Bloody hell how things change!

Why offer him a contract if that's the deal surely clause would be lower money in order for him to accept this isn't football manager..
Omari - new contract coming his way..? on 13:43 - Jul 15 with 841 views | DarkBrandon | I’m not following. Why would we consider a new contract after his release clause expires, but not before?
Omari - new contract coming his way..? on 14:28 - Jul 15 with 670 views | Swansea_Blue | Keeping him would be a superb piece of business. He was getting to the point he was unplayable at the end of our last Championship season. The PL doesn’t seem to have set him back - despite our poor team effort he was a bright spot at times and has grown further. In theory he should rip the Championship apart.

I guess we could offer him one before, but it depends on the terms in the contract. Take Delap's contract here, where Man City had a buy back clause inserted into the deal, it meant we couldn't offer him a new deal because you can't legally invalidate that clause that was originally signed. If Chelsea have a similar clause with Omari, then we can't (although, this hasn't been made public). But if his release clause expires, then it doesn't rule out that he will stay, especially if he wants to leave. The club have more control over the player, but there might be room for negotiation that suits all involved to ensure he stays, which could be a better contract on better money, but which an agreement that we failing to get promoted means we will allow him to move on.

Omari - new contract coming his way..? on 15:03 - Jul 15 with 497 views | CastroSito | We shouldn't really be offering him more money to stay IMO. This is the model. We buy young players with high potential and develop them to sell for profit. Omari leaving is the process working. Recruiting well is the key.

I take your point and I agree. Omari will leave one day and it will be for a profit which sees the process working. However, there is also a balancing act. We want to be playing in the Premier League and we need to have the quality to get back there. He's an exception that he's just too good for this league.
