C.Chaplin (CAM)

C.Ogbene (RM)
W.Burns (RM)

N.Broadhead (LM)
S.Szmodics (LM/CAM)

G.Hirst (ST)

20 Man Squad
Exits: S.Morsy, O.Hutchinson, A.Al-Hamadi, A.Muric, C.Slicker, C.Humphreys, E.Baggott

Shows the activity we will likely need to be doing, bringing in high level, need 2x CDM, 1x CAM, 2x ST, +1x GK (doesn't impact squad numbers - H.Gray) - just over 3 weeks to get this done.

AM depends on Hutch. I expect him to go, but this expiring release clause complicates things a bit (or will at least bring them to a head soon). I now only 80% expect him to go rather than 95%.

When you see it laid out like that, holy crap we’ve got a good side. Yes, light in CM and CF but I’m sure we’ll get at least one good player in each of those positions. RB is arguably our weakest area but that’s still got a player who’s spent his whole career in the PL. It’s only ‘weak’ because they’re both better going forwards.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

I think we will play proper hard ball over Omari. Why would you let him go if we aren't obligated to and don't NEED to sell for financial reasons? He will comfortably be the best player in the league and you just can't replace him at this level. He's a complete match winner and could well be the key to £150m+ of riches.

I think a Taylor may go nothing to suggest his good enough.

We've got to do everything to keep Omari.

If we can and we add 2 x CM and 2 x #9 we've got a naughty squad if we get that recruitment right. Still a question mark over the right-back position potentially but certainly not a top priority.

Agree with your departures list, although I could see some logic in keeping Humphreys around, at least until Jan if the squad places allow for it. Good young player, can operate in a number of positions and brings a bit of 'knows the culture' in an area where we're going to see a lot of change.

I think I said earlier, I don't really expect the release clause to change too much of the situation with Hutchinson.

I still think £35m gets him.

Not sure all of those go, I can see Hutch staying and possibly Humphreys as a squad option. We also have more than 3 weeks, it's more like 6 and a bit weeks until the transfer window closes. We already have the core of a squad there, ideally another CM and CF before the season starts but any other additions can come once a ball has been kicked if necessary.

It changes the narrative completely.

With the release clause in place, we have no choice but to let him leave at that value.

With no clause in place, we may still end up letting him go, but we're in a much stronger negotiating position.

Hope so. We’re pretty stacked without him, but to keep him would be ridiculously good.

Assuming Slicker leaves (or goes out on loan) one of the senior keepers will leave so Button will be 3rd keeper. Does that mean he has to be in our 25 man squad?

Would need to take up a spot.

Given how easy it is to register an emergency loan for a keeper, for me it would be a weird choice to use up a squad place on him.

I’m not sure the narrative really changes, if someone offers a well structured £35m fee, it’s highly likely we will take that - and rightfully so in my opinion.

The number is still the number.

I mean apart from the 32 Premier League appearances where he was by no means bad, he just didn't really stand out.

I can understand wanting to sell him given the contract but it's not down to quality. He's more than good enough to play second fiddle to the new more forward thinking CM.

IMO he's even more valuable with Morsy going. He's the only one who truly knows his role/ the system.

Would seem a little pointless in moving J.Taylor on.

He’s more than capable at Championship level, even if not likely to be a regular starter, if he were to leave, we would have to replace like for like.

Given I think he was bought in for £1.5m, I think it’s unlikely we would replace like for like quality with that same fee.
