It's a hell of a long journey for a friendly for 90% of Scotland's population, too!

The Kool Kidz are off to Auxerre.

Please note: prior to hitting the post button, I've double checked for anything that could be construed as "Anti Semitic" and to the best of my knowledge it isn't. Anything deemed to be of a Xenophobic nature is therefore purely accidental or down to your own misconstruing.

I look at it more as across, appropriate as I will cross a couple of spectacular bridges on the way (Skye and Kessock.)

Actually I'm struggling to see who could be travelling west to Aberdeen unless they are flying into Dyce from Schipol.

Yes, myself and Basuco the younger, staying at the city centre Premier Inn, long old way for a friendly, 8 hour 40 minutes and 538 miles. I am undecided to go A1 or M6, M74 at the moment.

Fair play that's a great effort.

Yes I'm going. A couple of hours away. Looking at the seating plan, doesn't look like we are taking that many.

There's a bit of a discrepancy on the start time. ITFC site says 19:00 but the Aberdeen site (and the tickets) say 19:30. Presume it is the latter.

Have a look at the A68, leave the A1 on the B road through Piercebridge just after Scotch Corner and join the A68 a little before West Auckland (football memorial statue). The road ascends and descends a fair bit in places but if your stomach can take it you will find it much quieter, just as quick and scenic in a strangely wild manner. Couple of good places to fill up in Fir Hill and just before Tow Law (which has a take away with the most unhealthy menu I have yet found.) And a proper job border viewpoint place for a short rest. Joins the Edinburgh ring road after Dalkeith and then take the exit for the lovely new bridge over the Forth to pick up the M90.

It's beautiful, but if the farmers are harvesting on the day you happen to be travelling along it, there can be loooooong tailbacks behind farm machinery. The A1 isn't immune from that, either!

Another football pilgrimage would be Langley Park for Sir Bobby's birthplace, which is reachable from both A68 and A1.

Fair play for driving, I chickened out and spent £168 on train tickets for me and my boy, probably works out about the same anyway all included.

Leaving at 06:11 and get into Aberdeen at 13:50. 12 noon departure Saturday getting back at 21:15. The long ones are always the best.

Yeah. Can I claim the prize for longest schlepp?

Tomorrow I am in Geneva for the Women's Euro SF. Wednesday, train Geneva - Paris -London - Ipswich, then Thurs Ipswich - Peterborough - Edinburgh- Aberdeen. Appreciated that doesn't look sensible, but I had the Geneva - home already booked, and I am guessing I might need different clothes anyway!
