Hackney “biding his time”?! on 09:26 - Jul 30 by portmanking | I imagine the Broadhead sale helps us to fund the large upfront payment for Hackney. Let's hope KMac works his magic, although everything I've heard suggests our 'officials' have already agreed terms on a contract etc. The Boro journo is saying negotiations are only now beginning. |
Boro journos have been a step behind what is happening the whole way through.
Hackney “biding his time”?! on 09:29 - Jul 30 with 1304 views | itfcsuth | I don't think it's out of the ordinary. I think fans get delusional about their own club, he's not a fan of Ipswich, like us who would dream of playing for Town growing up. Players are looking for the best move in their career, and if Town is the right move for his development then it will a good fit for both parties, we will benefit, he will beenfit. But ultimately, like every player, and especially young talented players, they want PL football, and if that carrot may dangle, they are going to wait as long as possible to grab it.

Yeah, agreed in principle barring a late PL move for him throwing a spanner in the works.

Are we time-limiting the negotiations? Do we feel like we need an answer from him this week?

That is the impression I get. Think both us and Boro want a conclusion in the next couple of days. We can't wait indefinitely so Hackney needs to make a decision. Boro quite happy with the deal to allow them to re-invest.

'Cashing in on Hackney will enable the Teessiders to unlock a number of the key incoming deals they have also been working on this month, with a move for a new forward a priority. A deal for a forward that would involve a significant payment is understood to be at a reasonably advanced stage, and Boro’s recruitment team would hope to make rapid progress on that proposed transfer if Hackney’s departure is confirmed. Talks over a potential deal for free agent Danny Ings also remain ongoing.' They're clearly trying to get him out the door.

I'm sure we want to get it done sooner rather than later but I am willing to be a little patient as this would be a hell of a signing. This has clearly been rumbling on for a while and still no PL interest, I'm increasingly confident we can land him. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I'd add, we've obviously been given assurances he is willing to come or we wouldn't have bothered waiting around or agreeing a deal with Boro.

This is the thing, he's from what I understand a Middlesborough fan. relatively similar size of clubs in regards to fanbase etc, obviously we've just got more to offer at this stage. If he does move here think it shows a lot about him, would be easy for him to stay at Boro for now. Hopefully he can see himself as the main man in the centre of the pitch firing a team back to the Prem and then staying there.

Boro themselves (and/or Hackney's agent) are also very likely briefing them certain things in a certain way so it doesn't just look like we've walked in and picked up their best player with little fight. PR games are very much part of transfers these days!

This, 100%. When you consider Phil alluded to a fee being agreed 5 or so days ago, for Boro's reporters to only now be reporting an agreed fee smells like Boro trying to make it look like they're not as desperate for the cash as they are. Unfortunately, that's the football food chain now. We've been victims of it in years' past. Downes sold for peanuts etc. I will add I'm slightly concerned that a £15m down payment sounds like loose change to a PL club, so I'm still wary of an Everton or Palace nipping in at the last moment.
