Most (if not all) windows since he’s been here have had a frustration phase like this.
It’s the nature of transfers - unpredictable, tricky, largely out of his control. I’m sure it frustrates the life out of him, but I doubt he blames the Club.

“I think we’re lighter in certain areas than we want to be, that’s for sure.”
He’ll be gutted about HH was clearly target #1 all summer. Let’s see what comes next.
he'll be disappointed about hackney, but he'll have understood it was a stretch for a championship side, just as philogene was last year when villa got him ahead of us.
the injuries will have got him much more down as those are his players and he'll have planned around them (as well as the obvious human emotion...)

It was ridiculously close and we obviously put a lot of eggs in said basket with a lengthy pursuit and getting him to travel south for face to face meetings.
Hopefully that being scuppered a week before the season hasn’t messed up any other plans.

so was philogene, didn't take us long to move on to clarke, you always have a plan b/c/d/z(josh sargent?)

Not sure that’s the best example in this context. Let’s see, if we get Cajuste, I’m a big fan of his but Hackney played 43 times in the championship last year and I’m not convinced we’d get that from Jens. I’m even less convinced on Taylor playing a major role starting games in a top 2 team but who knows.
We shall see where we are on Friday and then on September 1st.

The flip side for Taylor is that unless he plays we won't know whether he is progressing to be good enough. A big season for him but we chased him for a long time for good reason and now is time for him to show why. It also then puts Humphreys and Barbrook potentially in the picture for squad roles and maybe they can show they are good enough. I have high hopes for Humphreys at least.
Of course we would have wanted a committed Hackney but if he isn't prepared to work his way to promotion with us because he thinks he has already earnt the right to be in the Premier League let him take that gamble and both parties can reassess the situation in January.

This is prime time for taylor and humprheys at town really
Both them have talents. Different stages of career but both could either continue to be part of town or early season form could show them the door. Big few weeks for them imo.

He sounds a bit fed up in the post match here,
When other clubs want our players we should be pleased because it isn't that long ago that it wasn't the situation for Ipswich Town.
By the end of the window we will have a really strong squad with players who are fully committed.
We are lighter in certain areas than we want to be ... need to be just 100% focussed on the task in hand of getting points on the board ... incomings and outcomings will play out ... Harry Clarke came back in great condition preseason so disappointed to lose him ...
The fed up tone certainly shines through when talking about injuries rather than transfers. Talked fairly positively about Humphreys, Barbrook and Baggott too.

Taylor's been here 2 years.
In that time, we should know exactly how good he is.
I'd say he should be 4th choice CM. Not sure he'll get any better than 4th choice. We need 2 CMs.

Taylor joined us in League 1 as a League 1 player and didn't get to start regularly for us through the next 2 campaigns. He remained part of the squad and was often one of the better performers when we had a cup game. Last season he played regularly in the Premier League mainly off the bench.
If you are talking about the player we signed 2 years ago, he isn't good enough. However, if he has progressed enough to play in the Premier League (albeit a team short of what was required to stay up) and continues to progress as he holds down a starting place, he could easily be a solid Championship performer.
Remember, teams that get promoted don't have the best 11 Championship players but have something like 2-5 of the best backed up by solid performers around them. Ultimately it is about whether we perform as a team.

Surely our staff including Mckenna see him every day in training and can make an assessment about him from that and his game time already. I dont think he's pulled up any trees in his game time. Forget about last season, as the PL was too much for pretty much all our players, but I was disappointed he didn't do enough to take over from Mass 2 seasons ago. He's possibly solid championship class - but is that good enough? I think he's a solid squad player ... no more. But, I guess, he's got a chance to establish himself on Friday.

He didn’t progress enough to play in the PL if we are being honest that was a forced situation with the squad last year. The plan was obviously for him to sit behind Hackney who was ever present for Boro but I’m concerned he might have to play a lot more minutes now, in a system he’s never particularly slotted into. Hopefully Cajuste can stay fit this season if that’s the direction we go.
As our spending was heavily skewed in attackers last year I was hoping for 3 or 4 big signings in CM with the exits that were on the cards. I guess it will likely be 3 but he will still be first reserve for Cajuste.
A Parachute club should be looking for better than solid and have squads depth miles ahead really from a financial perspective. I don’t think Leeds or Burnley had 2 of the best 11 players last year by the way!
Anyway we are where we are for now, hopefully if he has to play a lot he delivers.

Imo he's good enough for the champ easily if he's given a run of games, the Prem experience will have been good for him, we do need more signings but I want to see more of Taylor now, remember this lad can score goals, we're still yet to see the best of him imo...

Does he even fit in a genuine midfield 2 with 3 attackers and a striker ahead of him?
Either way not a conversation I was hoping to have 5 days before the season tbh!

In the diamond he played in at Posh he has played in all those positions, very handy player to have, still think his best position is as a ten but we have a lot of options..

Yes unfortunately that was in league 1, not against Tommy Doyle.
Anyway I don’t dislike Taylor as a squad player, just want the obvious upgrades for where we are now. Looks like he will be starting for most of August and we have a tough start. Big chance for him to prove me and others wrong though.
