Not sure how I feel about this.. bannan talk. (Not transfer) 11:43 - Aug 6 with 1540 viewsFrimleyBlue

He struggles seeing people who aren't getting paid yet signs a new deal which ensures he will despite being able to move to another club and get paid quite easily.

One one hand I get it. He's doing what he wants to do for himself. But I just can't see how you can bemoan the financial state of the club yet sign a new deal with them and talk like he has about it..

What do you all think? Best to keep those thoughts to himself?

a niche perspective

I think its quite poor of him to sign something with them to be honest.

I think he means that he's financially ok regardless - which given his career, one would expect - but other people are not.

Also, probably working from a position that SWFC are bigger than him and Chansari.

I figured he’s signed this deal because he would struggle to get the same deal elsewhere due to him IMHO being a little past it. He’s a legend at the club and getting him to resign settles some unrest with supporters albeit very minimally

In terms of his quotes ref feeling sorry for the “normal” staff - see above. If he were to move he’d struggle to get a decent deal at a “big” club and so now he’s signed a new deal he’s decided to hire the hand that feeds him

All very bizarre

Possibly, he thinks that if Wednesday are to stand a chance of staying up they will need their players to stay and to rally behind. If everyone left, relegation will be a certainty with those staff members being made redundant just like that.

This is speculation on my part, but I'd guess that although he's signed a new contract, he's also not being paid at the moment - but is financially secure enough that he doesn't need to worry about it right now., whereas others on the club staff are struggling.

Point taken, but it’s not his job to pay the cooks, cleaners etc.

Blame the crooks running the show, and credit Bannan for sticking around to draw attention to them.

I expect he has had to take a hefty pay cut, aren't Wednesday under restrictions as to how much they can pay players they sign now? I expect the maximum they can pay will be quite low. If he didn't sign, in all likelihood, someone else would need to be signed for similar money as they're so low on numbers now, they would most likely be of a much lower quality too.

But then, if he were to go somewhere else, doubtless some fans would see him as deserting the club in their hour of need. It's a very difficult situation to be honest, and it's not of his making. It seems to me that he comes across as human, and caring about others, but at the same time wanting to do what's best for him and his career. It's a difficult, conflicted position.

I have sympathy with everyone connected with that club, to be honest, apart from the owners of course. It could have been us, if Evans had just sold to any old person who came along at the time.

Yes this.

Weds cam only offer so much on any contract (I think i read 5k a week) he'd command more and fair play to him for not abandoning ship in my view.

I always thought that if you are offered a contract at the same place it has to legally be at least the same wage? I don't think anything trumps that, no matter how hard up the club are?

That maybe the case for a contract extension for a currently contracted player, I doubt it true for a player who's contract has already expired, though.

I doubt he brought the subject up. If asked, he has to answer the question somehow. If he's getting stick for this answer I can't imagine any other answer would have gone down any better so what is he supposed to say?

Truly impaired.
