Ashley Young was very pleased with the Town support last night 10:13 - Aug 9 with 1826 viewsunstableblue

First off, I’ve not seen/heard many more aggressive/vociferous fan reaction to a sub coming on than when ex-Villain Ashley Young entered the fray last night.

Quite something.

And the away end gave it back with multiple raucous choruses of “Ashley Young he’s won more than you!”

This continued as the Town players approached the travelling fans at the end and Young the Elder was clearly fired up by the reaction and support, stepping forward to give his shirt to a fan.

Great stuff. And I though he really improved us when entering the game.

His control and dead-ball delivery have really impressed me. There are certainly no issues with his mobility.

Set pieces might take a step up in quality with him around. I can't remember the last genuinely good corner taker we had, and while he was usually quite accurate, Morsy's free kicks weren't necessarily dangerous.

Yes Guthrum, he’s definitely mobile and gets around the pitch well.

But it’s the way he makes time and space for himself that’s good.

Also his passing is excellent, so accurate and crisp.

Must start against Saints.

Said this on another thread myself. For a while now we've lacked a good right footed set piece taker (obviously we have Davis). Morsy's were OK, but he mainly floated them in, whereas Young's whipped deliveries will cause chaos. A great signing on several levels.

An excellent signing he will make a big contribution and hopefully make a big impact on the rest of the squad both on the training pitch and in games.

He really did stitch the right hand side together along with Chappers. He will prove to be an excellent signing.

I liked how, after Hirst scored and some Brum neanderthal decided to throw a cup at him, Young just booted it back into the crowd.

I think Johnson’s getting some unfair stick, but Young is a good signing, especially judging by last night’s meek performance. We’ll need him to gee the others up and steady the ship.

Davis is ok on corners, but not outstanding. His real skill is getting into good positions and sending crosses in open play, or special routines (e.g. the corner to someone outside the box who then shoots). Ordinary corners mostly just result in defender clearances.

Young, I think, has a lot more precision (from long practice and experience, presumably). Last season, Enciso seemed to be able to get a bit more out of a few corners he took than Davis does.
