They went down to 10 men and absolutely battered us in the final stages. Plus the ref added something like 12 minutes on and we were camped inside our own half. Hladky pulled off a wonder save to deny them an equaliser at the death. A real sliding doors moment. |  |

Opening games mean nothing and always throw up very odd scores. They are not indicative of how the season will pan out. |
I was watching NBC coverage, and they pulled up a stat about “the first team to score in a new season got promoted in 6 of the last 7 seasons”, ignoring the fact that a favourite for promotion nearly always features in the season opener. |  |

We definitely deserved to win. Hirst should have had a penalty when he followed up Chaplin's lob that hit the bar. But it was far from plain sailing. Always fine margins in games of football. [Post edited 9 Aug 2025 19:52]
