Non Ipswich related but given the investment, I am continually staggered on a daily basis by just how poorly Newcastle are run and how they've dealt with this whole Isak saga.
On the eve of the season, how do you get into a situation where your best player has said he's never going to play for the club again and 80% of the adequate replacements have already moved clubs.
Surely the hierarchy knew this situation might come about earlier this summer and even now when it's been a live situation for 4+ weeks, they still continue to let it rumble on with no end in sight.
The sad reality is that every single club besides Real Madrid and Barcelona are a selling club. Players just have too much power.

We can only deal in the facts that we know. At the start of the window in June there was Saudi interest, he prioritised Europe. There were Arsenal talks but they preferred Gyokeres so yes it is entirely plausible that Newcastle would have been the only good option at that time. United were not interested then.
It was only when Isak kicked up a fuss about not being able to leave that they decided they wanted him and by that point it was too late.
They were also trying to sign another quality striker to play with Isak! They were bidding for Ekitike before Liverpool had the bid rejected for Isak! They wanted Isak and another world class player.
All backed up by reputable sources ...

We will never know, the only thing we can say for sure is that they waited so long that they gave United a chance to try get Delap, try get Gyokeres and then settle for Sesko.

There is such a grey area there though isn't there.
Any player could technically claim they had an injury or were experiencing pain (mental/ physical) which obviously cannot be verified and so long as they are still turning up to the training ground to get treatment then there are no grounds to fine them.

It also applies in normal jobs where, if an employee claims sick leave as a result of stress, the employer has to take it very seriously & use strict protocols. |  |

Oh come on ... You and I know that these top journalists are very very well informed nowadays. The transfer window in this country predominately goes through Ornstein/ Romano/ Jacobs and Craig Hope has been bang on for everything Newcastle.
These are not 'rumours' like your dismissively saying, this is as close to factual reporting on transfers as you'll get.
I didn't disagree there is a pecking order. I actually acknowledged that every single club is a selling club besides Real Madrid and Barcelona above.
Knowing that, Newcastle had to get to the front of the queue for the striker(s) they wanted to replace or play with Isak. They didn't, they waited and waited and now they're firmly at the back. [Post edited 12 Aug 17:50]

I have some sympathy with Newcastle tbh, this reflects worse on the player. Shameful to go AWOL and down tools like that, he needs to remember who pays his wages and the fact he signed a contract. Had he got a nasty long term injury I dare say his club wouldn't refuse to pay him again. [Post edited 12 Aug 10:50]

What is currently happening reflects badly on all parties and even if he did have a change of heart, It looks like the bridges have been burnt. When was the last time it was reported that a high profile player suggested he would never play for his CL competing club again?
The fact it has got to this situation suggests a complete lack of strategy, situational understanding and foresight from the club. Yes the player has been out of order but the club had to have an idea something like this might happen. | | | |

It’s unusual but I’m not sure how that’s Newcastle’s fault. In fact you could argue that the fact a player going as far as Isak has to try and force a move is so rare means that they could hardly have foreseen them playing hardball would come to this
It isn’t completely without precedent though. Luis Suarez was at one point never going to play for Liverpool again and sue them for breach of contract and wound up signing a new deal, scoring a f**k ton of goals and nearly firing them to the title | |

If Liverpool hadnt bid this wouldn't be happening and they have tried over and over again for strikers.
Delap, Sesko, Wissa, Jao Pedro. And I'm sure they have offered big wages too.
Its a tough market, they want players to help them make the leap and that means competing against the established teams, Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Utd.
Aston Villa, v similar place to Newcastle atm and finding it equally tough this summer | |
