Wonder how Brentford feel? 11:03 - Aug 15 with 1161 viewsUSA

Clearly wanted Omari. Thought they’d play silly b*ggers by offering the £35m in the clause but (assume deliberately) not meeting the terms and then hope to get him cheaper at a later date but ultimately missing out altogether. (Reported they thought they would be able to do so at the time).

Just get the deal done especially knowing the were about to get circa £67m for Mbeumo.

I think Forest are the better option for Omari anyway but assume he’s not particularly precious who is paying him.

It was clearly their choice not to push it any further.

That's the risk they took.

Truly impaired.

Forest is a safer bet you would think. I don't quite buy in to the Brentford are destined for relegation rhetoric but there's no doubt they've lost a lot of quality, not least in the dugout. It'll be interesting to see.

Forest will be safe, Nuno's a very experienced manager and its a good move for Hutchinson. I would rather it was done 3 weeks ago and I'm not at all impressed with how its played out over that time, but it is what it is.

They've just gone and chucked even more money at a winger from Bournemouth so presumably they felt they'd hit the ceiling of Omari's value.

The probably feel small, which they are.

Probably fine - they obviously felt Omari was worth £35M, but weren't going to be held to ransom, and had other enqueries going on.

Interest seemed to cool after picking up Antoni-Djibu Milambo for about £20M.

Brentford, Bournemouth and Wolves have all lost some serious talent but with the gulf there was last year between safe and relegated sides it would take an enormous shift for that to be turned around this season. The difference may be smaller this year but I can't see past the 3 promoted sides being adrift by Easter.

But they could’ve had him for £35m couldn’t they! That was the clause they just didn’t meet them terms

I agree with you that the "Brentford are certs for the drop" feels way overdone.

I also think that being an Elanga replacement feels about right for Omari, so it is probably the right road to take for him.

However, I dont think that Forest are necessarily completely safe. They are more likely to bend the rules to achieve safety, and have a history of being good at it - arguably more than any other club apart from Leicester or City. But I still think that their workload next season will be significant with Europe and I wonder if the injuries pile up, whether they are set up to cope.

Not saying they are favourites for the drop, just that they are not immune.

The league position from last year would suggest that, but the noises coming out of Forest are not good. If A Champions League club has a management vacancy this year, can see Nuno jumping ship.

They've also reached an agreement to sign Ouattara from Bournemouth for £42m, so yeah less about penny-pinching I would guess, more about not liking the terms we were insisting on.

Yes, that's what I said, they thought he was worth £35M, the fact that payment terms could not be agreed is a different thing altogether.

SO we've eventaully accepted an offer for £2.5m more.

I'm fairly sure if they wanted him that badly, they could have offered the £35m in the terms we wanted, or offered a bit more etc.

They clearly wanted him on a payment plan over a number of year, probably to protect their value in him and all these PSR rules. Thy're getting that guy from Bournemouth for £42.5m so maybe they wanted him more

A few pretty grumpy on their site which I find funny given how they were convinced he'd go there and how he really wanted to. Not sure if he ever wanted Brentford given they'll likely be scrapping at the bottom of the league
