And also our best defender left on a free.
No back up LB
No back up striker
Still need 4 more players in 13 days.

Very poor window so far.

To be August 19th with 1 fit striker, 2 good CMs (one of which has had 0 pre season), 0 RWs capable of playing this system is far, far from ideal.

The window is not a bad one whilst it is still open though. Time for Ashton to work some magic.

We got Cajuste.

It’s the best transfer window EVER!

RIP Sir Bobby

You're all insane.

Question for the moaners: do you listen to what KM ever says?

He's said time and again that he only wants to bring in players to improve us and not for the sake of it. In fact Ashton once remarked on how KM would prefer not to sign players unless they are certain they will improve us.

We're now shopping in a very difficult market because of our ambitions. We are looking for players who are good enough to play in the PL and in difficult positions.

So far we've signed a 10m ex Ajax midfielder, Cajuste who we know is a solid PL player who has played in the champions League for Napoli. We've added a recent golden boot winner in the championship who has also played for Ajax. And in Ashley Young a very experienced professional who has won titles in England and Italy. Plus in Kipre a very solid championship CB.

We have been closely linked with exciting European attacking talent and we're clearly after another CM - again ambitious targets.

I would not call the window a disaster. Far from it. Clearly KM wants business to be done but the transfer window is always like this. It's difficult to get everything done early. Especially with the players we're after.

Not every signing will be a success. That's football. But after years and years of Phil writing 'Quiet end to transfer window expected at Portman Road' at the end of windows, it seems bizarre people are acting like we're on the Titanic or something.

I wouldn't rate it as a bad transfer window, not with players like Cajuste and Akpom in, but we definitely need a few more quality players. There are also a couple of question marks, without claiming they are truths:
Are we holding on to our primary transfer targets for too long, instead of moving on?
Do we have a good enough scouting network?
Tough week for Ashton awaits.

Ambitious?

Just look at us struggling to sign a striker. Especially on a perm.

Leeds signed Piroe when they got relegated.

Brum got Kyogo and are now linked with Mitrovic.

Us?

Leeds signed Piroe on the 24th of August, so pretty late in the window. We wouldn't have been in for Kyogo so not sure why you've brought him up, and Mitrovic hasn't signed for Brum or anyone. We've also been linked with strikers, there's a difference between being linked and actually signing them. We have also brought in Akpom so it's not like we've not strengthened the forward area.

We've replaced Massimo, not sure about Morsy

Morsy of our last Championship season would take a big bit of replacing, Morsy of the Premier league not so much . OK not many of us can understand why Sam was given the green light to depart me included but I think we must try and keep the faith as I'm sure the club are busting a gut to get the best deals possible done .

The expert consensus, based on performance analysis is that Matusiwa is a very similar player to Morsy, but slightly better in almost all respects. This provides a good illustration:

Time will tell, but everything points to him being intended as the Morsy+

You would hope so for £7m or whatever he cost.

He'll get there, I think he's been impressive out of possession in his first 2 games, would like to see a little more on the ball but I'm sure that will come, in his defence he's probably not been partnered with a long term prospect in Taylor and arguably had 2 of the toughest games to get started. Lets not forget in the 3-2 win Southampton bossed us in the middle for an hour of that game as well, but the result often dictates the narrative.

There does appear to be a dearth of very good players and those available are being targeted by many clubs. If a player has an option of going to a La Liga or Serie A team or the Premier League then they will 9 out of 10 times pick them.
The players that have left in most cases were inevitable. They were either near the end of their contracts, their sales were pretty much forecast or they weren't good enough.
The problem has been that in now coming up to four seasons we have been in different leagues and the turn over of players has possibly been too high, but it is of no fault of Ashtons or KM.
What do we want. To still be in League One and have a settled but ageing side. Of course not.
But I suggest that it hasn't been easy to get players in for the various reasons I have provided.
My hope and concern is that we don't just get players in for the sake of it. We need a couple of top notch signings to replace Delap and Hutchinson.
Maybe they won't be quite their class, but who knows. We need a couple of rabbits pulled out of the hat.
