I think there is enough quality on this squad to scrape enough points to avoid relegation

Keep us up ? What the heck. We have only played four games and many of the new players have had little or no time to integrate.
Whilst I would be concerned if we went a dozen games and were not climbing the table.
Bedding in so many players is always the problem. Whether we can afford, this squad to not be promoted I am not sure.
Not getting promotion would again lead to huge changes due to players with the option to buy contracts and players like O'shea being gobbled up by promoted or lower Premier League clubs.
Dangerous times and whilst having loads of dosh can be a blessing it can also be an anchor weighing heavily on the management.

Bedding players is a tried excuse which gives McKenna a get out clause. Yesterday we started the game with three players who weren't here last year - Young, McAteer and Matusiwa. Add to that, Matusiwa and Cajuste had played 40+ games together for Reims. If there are still issues from the off it's down to the coaching, not the gelling. Other teams don't appear to be struggling. Burnley had a 40 player turnover last year and won three and drew won of their first four in 24/25. Sunderland have picked up six points from nine in the top tier despite the churn, and have already exceeded the number of home wins we managed throughout last season. So shall we move on from cop out?

It's always tempting to look for the magic reason why it's not happening, but the simple fact is confidence and momentum is the lions share of the battle. We're struggling with both.

I honestly think the fixture computer has been really unkind to us two seasons running. The difference this year is we're the big fish, so despite the situation we're hanging in and managing to pick up a point.

It'll come, particularly if the fans stick with the team. We have too much quality and despite the lack of a win, our performances are steadily improving. Whether it comes quickly enough for top 2, top 6 or mid table remains to be seen.

At the moment it feels like our season is on a bit of a knife edge and the next game is always critical.

Absolutely right. When we were 1-0 up we were playing some lovely football. One mistake and confidence gone.

The fixture list has been really unkind to us? OK Birmingham away and Southampton at home, I get, but we should not be calling Preston away and Derby at home fixtures to be wary of. It's not as though we were sent to Coventry followed up by a visit from Leicester.

Whatever the results, no matter how bad, the excuse is already there for the McKenna fan club.
Be it up against premier league sides, too many injuries or bedding in players , its never the manager hasn't got a chuffin clue

I was referring to the first two games, as a say momentum and confidence, particularly following relegation. Two easier fixtures to begin and there's every chance we'd have picked up 4-6 points and be in a totally different place.

Nothing we can do about it now other than graft and dig our way out. Getting the better players, the newer ones with less of a relegation hangover, fit and on the pitch will also help massively.

I don't think McKenna walks on water, but if he hasn't got a chuffin clue, explain his first two seasons. You don't fluke double promotion.

Until such time as someone at the club decides he's not the man to take us forward, the best thing we can do as fans is get behind the team and help them turn it around.

Why is the concept of momentum so hard for you to grasp? Individual games don't happen in a vacuum.

It's all about expectations, and many are still acting a bit entitled.

We should have the tools to get promoted automatically, but nothing is for certain in this league. Derby at home should have been a win, but they very successfully broke up the game, and disrupted us. For most of the game, we controlled it, but we're missing a cutting edge in front of goal. Sort that, and we'll win games like yesterday.

Preston away - Deepdale has been a tough place to go to in recent years, and anyone expecting to go there for an easy win were deluded. Last season, Preston's home losses was up with the top 6. It was away that they were sh!t. I had Preston away down as a tough draw, and it would have been without an early penalty - that was always going to be hard for us to come back from with Preston's ability at home.

I still believe it is possible for us to win the title - its far too early to write that off. Just look to Sunderland 2006/7

No, but in line with that, the issues in the Preston and Derby games just exposed issues we had in our League One days and, even then, struggled to work out if we failed to score relatively early - how to beat gamesmanship and a low block. There's nothing to say things would have been different had we played them before Birmingham and Southampton.

To oversimplify, I'm of the opinion that it's a bit easier to play well against Preston and Derby if it's not off the back of dented confidence by struggling against two objectively better sides in Birmingham and Southampton.

I take your point about the sh-thousing low block. But you beat it by having better individuals than the opposition (exactly what happened to us in the prem, although we weren't particularly good at the low block) and not making daft individual mistakes when the opposition bypass your superior midfield. That chest down from O'Shea, while I understand what he was trying to achieve, was something else. And big refereeing moments like penalty decisions and stamps on grounded players can help too.

Fine margins. I choose to believe we can overcome these challenges if the fans forget what the bookies were saying, remember how far we've come and just get behind the team.

How long have the £150 million group we assembled 12 months ago had??

The ones that played every game so far? Many of which have been in a team of the year at this level before?

Which of Sammie, Philogene, Clarke, Greaves would you say have improved the most?

Isn’t 12 mk the evidence enough? It was when Paul Cooks leadership group of Chaplin, Burgess, Morsy, Burns, Wolfenden fired us to promotion in 23/24.

It’s pure ego at this point.

Your whole personality is attached to KM isn’t it.

You can’t see the wood for the trees.., 44 games, 1 home win!!!

Sunderland and Leeds, doing more in TWIO games than we did in a season.

WAKE UP

And we could win every game now.., it makes no difference.

No vision, no plan, no strategy, no concept of anything that isn’t a coaching session.

It’s abject, and with the resources spent, it’s actually pathetic.., worse than any manager has ever done under Evans, when they didn’t get backed.

And we will be fine.., £200 million spent will do that, but McKenna still won’t be good enough, and more importantly, Ashton can’t mitigate Mckennas weaknesses, because he’s useless, and doesn’t even have the basic football awareness to know what they are.

Who signs a WBA 1990’s defence, that was never elite, if the the problem is how to get established in the top flight.

Which if Townsend, Furlong, Kiipre, Palmer do you think has the highest ceiling…, average age 30!

We need higher standards.., fed up of people like you wanting us ti play Morecambe so we can win a game.., it’s pathetic.

Apologies for the late reply, I have been scouring, scouring I have, the forum (well, I have gone through the last twelve pages) and can't see any trace of it. I think it was a 'why haven't we signed any players' post by an established poster (but I can't remember who) and caught both Ryorry and Glassers. Apparently Ryorry thought a question mark should have been added to the thread header to make the sarcasm work, and the edit was duly made.
