I watched the interview. A good actress. I suggest you stop being so gullible. And keep on spouting the old right wing crap, to try to stop debate with anything you don't agree with. She's a hypocrite.

I find all these excuses for Rayner's behaviour nauseating. That she's a woman, was working class, has a northern accent, etc, etc, has nothing to do with the fact she appears to have been caught out cheating HMRC and not paying the correct Stamp Duty. Given her position there is no excuse for not getting the correct advice.

Keir Starmer's question in Parliament on 25 January 2023:

“Does the Prime Minister agree that any politician who seeks to avoid the taxes they owe in this country is not fit to be in charge of taxpayer money?”

It’s a shame but she has to go. Your position is untenable if you can’t follow the rules, however complex. She’s been a target for years, this will be the final nail.
On the plus side, 18 months on the backbench is normally sufficient punishment/rehabilitation, so there’s a pathway back to Cabinet.

A few months on the back benches, well distanced from Starmers sh1te government probably won't do her much harm.
Be ready to come back an take over from Starmer after him and his current version of the Labour Party get trounced in the next election.

You appear to be missing the “seeks to avoid” bit of that question.

I don’t think she should lose her job given she took the advice she did in an attempt to pay the correct tax - but expecting her not to get any flak for it after the scrutiny she’s placed onto Tories who have been in the news with similar headlines is just silly

It would be interesting to know who she took advice off, her butcher, her baker? Any competent tax advisor or accountant would not have got that wrong, the guidance is clear on trusts for under 18 year olds and parents/trustees maintaining responsibility. There is a human element to the story so would understand if she keeps her job. Does seem a genuine mistake to me. Seems to me that like Prescott before her, she has the deputy job to give the government a veneer of being in touch with the Northern powerbases and wider Labour party due to being an authentic Northerner rather than purely on meritocracy.

The guidance may be clear but what would prompt you to look for it, having divested yourself of a property? It's a surprising rule, and I am certain that most would not even have thought about it. Including lawyers.
