Yep. Although I wonder if fans of Forest, Brentford , Bournemouth etc felt this empty when they replaced fan favourites with more expensive signings?

I said the day after promotion that we will never have a feeling like this again. We did it with mostly League One players against the odds. Now the expectations are so high.

But it is what it is. Time to get behind this new group of players.

Hey now, hey now, don't dream it's over

Agreed, and I agree with everything being said regarding needing to move them on to sign the new quality players. But the sentimental side of me is really hurting and upset. Woke up in a bad mood and genuinely lost sleep over it last night. God, football really does make you feel pathetic for getting so wound up sometimes doesn’t it 😂

I have little issue with losing those players and will be eternally grateful for their efforts and the euphoria given to the fans over those two seasons but things evolve

My only worry is that there doesn't seem to be a great deal of evolution in a good sense just yet . Small time frame I admit and only four games but .....some green shoots will be nice with certain individual players please

Perhaps with the departures it'll give the "new " bunch time and room to shine themselves and not forever in the shadows of the "legends"

I said this the day of promotion.

I remember feeling a tinge of sadness whilst working my way through crates of beer outside Curve bar that afternoon realising it’ll never be this good ever again.

The only time Ipswich town fc are ever successful is when we have a team of weirdos rejects youth players and the odd high profile signing, all coached to within an inch of their lives and with amazing esprit de corps.
Now we have a squad full of expensive glamorous signings. Will we buck the historical trend?

In the spirit of reconciliation and happiness at the end of the Banter Era (RIP) and as a result of promotion I have cleared out my ignore list. Look forwards to reading your posts!

It is possible to be both slightly saddened at the departure of members of a special team who achieved an exceptional feat and, at the same time, excited by the players we have recruited to replace them and the future development of the squad.

They were, after all, signed for a side who were mid-table in League One (albeit one with newly-injected ambition and money). You wouldn't ordinarily expect those players to be challenging at the top end of the Championship or competing for survival in the Prem. That they achieved such a thing is outstanding. To expect it to be repeated is asking an awful lot.

Change and renewal is inevitable in football (and all other team sport). Sentimental retention, even with old favourites, carries a real danger of decline and burn-out. The latter particularly after a bruising season of failure.

It may not seem so after the first few matches, but Town have assembled a very powerful team at this level (several of who have so far hardly been deployed, if at all). There is a lot to look forward to. Nine points off top spot with 126 to play for and a couple of the harder fixtures out of the way.

Good Lord! Whatever is it?

There's a place for the emotion, and a place for looking dispassionately at the improved make up of the squad with an attempt at Premier League survival in mind.

The two can co-exist.

Very excited about watching how the revamped squad takes shape over the next couple of months, and will also look fondly (ish) at the results of Pompey, Cov etc. as 'our' lads help them take points off our title rivals.

Always going to be difficult, that team was so special because of where we came from and where we went, especially after so many years of dross and a whole generation of Town fans literally never seeing us be successful. The style in which we did it as well, and the togetherness, against the odds in the Champ, the feel good factor and some of those ridiculous away days and home wins. I think the relationship between fans and players was as good as I've ever seen, everyone seemed fully bought in and pulling in the same direction.

Its been and gone now, it was always going to at some point. That can't be rebuilt, not in that way. The circumstances are entirely different, the profile of players is also very different and the money involved certainly is. I'm confident it will come good, but it will never be the same and there's not much point in comparisons. Its a new era now.

I think it's important fans move on. For all the complaining about our poor start, the continuation of lack of confidence from a dismal relegation etc...

It's like the fans haven't got over it yet either. We've hardly helped with really poor atmosphere so far this season. I get it helps when you've got something good to get behind but we have an exciting team.

I'm not sure they are all glamourous signings. Few of them are the most obvious choices from the Championship circuit, the names which were being bandied around during the window.

McAteer was apparently out of favour at Leicester. Egeli is an exciting punt on a youth. Matusiwa and Azor plucked from Europe. We still have Hirst and Davis, unfancied before they joined us.

I looked at the forum of one of the Champs other big spenders - Wrexham.
Reading between the lines they have come up so quickly they are used to shedding last seasons players and getting in another 11. As they have done again this year spending £32m according to their figures.
No emotion.
Just expected.
Even their fave scorer of the last 3 years Mullin. Gone.
It made a contrast to how we have felt over Morsy, Woolfy and Chappers et al.
