Transfer Windows for managers 14:10 - Sep 15 with 1049 viewsstickymockwell

I was just thinking after reading the Mckenna thread to West ham (not that I believe it). If there's windows for players then surely there should be ones for managers. Managers leaving is far more disruptive for clubs than players going.
A manager could still resign or be sacked but he wouldn't be able to join another club or if sacked then the club has to promote from within until the window is open again.
The club would be protected against a manager spending lots of cash on his players and going and the managers would probably be given more time to turn situations around.

A club could just sign a free agent if they were a free agent when the manager window closed surely?

Truly impaired.

You're likely saying this in light of wanting to protect our retention of KmK.

The flipside would be being stuck with Paul Hirst.

I can't see clubs agreeing to this ever. They want/need the to option to dump a lame coach/manager when they need to, otherwise it can drag the entire club down.

For me the fact that clubs would not agree to it does not make it a bad idea , i do agree they would not agree though . I think its a decent idea and maybe worth thinking about as it might give new managers a bit more time if they dont get off to a great start and possibly make clubs give appointments more consideration ?

Probably.
I was thinking along the lines of the manager can leave by resignation or sacking but the punishment for the manager or club would be the unavailability of a new man/club straight away. So we sack Hurst and have Klug in a caretaker role until Jan

that's a good addition, but it wouldn't stop the manager resigning, so the end effect is probably the same?

yes, i suppose if you say that you can't manage more than one club between each window, that could work.

maybe the manager window would be better if it opened a month before the player window so that the incoming manager can assess the players first?
