Was gonna let you get on with it. But you do make a lot of unsubstantiated claims as if they are fact - as if all universities are in turmoil and the email signature thing really is nonsense. My organisation has it and there was no such training. For someone so pedantic to the point of obsession about Doller's degree contents to causally lob in opinions as fact is hypocritical really. And no this is no a gang or tribe or any other such thing - just me
The idea that people are getting training in email footers is laughable, certainly in universities. People in universities are far too busy trying to somehow deliver a good standard of teaching and research whilst also going through constant rounds of restructuring, cost savings and redundancies. That’s thanks largely to the UK’s increasingly isolationist attitude, particularly the changes to immigration rules that have crippled overseas recruitment. Although limiting our overseas student intake is just the straw that’s broken the camel’s back. The falling real terms value of student fees and lifting the cap on intake numbers per course per institution has also hammered any unis that aren’t hugely in demand (so that means a lot of unis that sit outside the ‘elite’ Russell Group).
Universities are definitely in a crisis, but it’s got sod all to do with Stonewall. Nobody’s talking about Stonewall in my old institution nor any of the many others where I’ve still got contacts. The only thing on people’s minds is whether they’ll still have a job in 6 months. Something like 20,000 jobs have ben lost from the system in the last year or so. It’s just a matter of time before one goes bankrupt as many have used up most of their reserves.
(Free speech isn’t an issue in that world either - it’s never talked about other than when there’s some high profile case somewhere and you need to review policies. It’s certainly not a day to day topic. Having worked in that area for about 20 years on top of all my degrees across multiple institutions, I don’t recognise the portrayal of unis that the right wing press churns out).

This is spot on. The stuff about pronouns in emails being about Stonewall training are the ramblings of a fantasist that can't see how they've been sucked into the culture wars in a quite nefarious way. Nobody working HE has the time or energy to engage to attend training on email signatures, ffs. It's pathetic to suggest otherwise. It's a load of Trumpian guff.

you really don't know what you're talking about. NO ONE said the training was 'on email signatures' - that is an entirely desperate and disingenuous distortion. the shouty, red faced anger you summon up to avoid ever engaging with stuff outside of your bubble is astonishing. the guff is entirely yours.
And so as the loose-bowelled pigeon of time swoops low over the unsuspecting tourist of destiny, and the flatulent skunk of fate wanders into the air-conditioning system of eternity, I notice it's the end of the show

no one said there was "training in email footers". the use of footers was just a very visible consequence of much their broader training. perhaps its not something you have experienced.
"Free speech isn’t an issue in that world either" - then my experience is very different from yours.

This is a bit like when you challenge people by claiming they've said things they never actually said, except you did basically say that. You're fooked, mate. He's not experienced it because it doesn't exist. Swanners has you on ignore by the way, because he's sensible, so don't expect a reply from him.

i replied to "the idea that people are getting training in email footers is laughable" pointing out that no one had said that they were. what i had said was that the use of such footers was often a sign that organisations had used stonewall training. i'm sure stonewall have never run a session just on email footers, but i do know that amongst their many many recommendations they are one example.
why are you always so aggressive when someone with different experience to you has different views to you. i can match all of swansea's he experience - and that's the basis of my views. and all the down arrows are very tedious.

Here is what you originally said:
"I don't have an issue with pronouns - i would always try to use what people want out of politeness. if there was an issue with pronouns it was people a few years ago adding a footer to their emails - which almost without exception meant that their employer had arranged training by stonewall".
What you're now saying is that you didn't say that Stonewall trained people in using their pronouns in their email footer but what you actually said was that people started using pronouns in their email footer because of training by Stonewall. Even though a few people now who work in the sectors you reference have told you they use pronouns in their emails despite never receiving any training by Stonewall. I'd hoped at some point you might have enough to reflect on the rabbit hole you've disappeared down but you're completely lost, mate.

Even if stonewall were training people on how to be inclusive, what is the fecking issue?
But they arent.
Its made up.
Its what people say when they get their facts from the Daily Mail and Twitter.
