There are lots of things to talk about in this article, not least the usual trickle down nonsense from a very wealthy person.

However, the thing that struck me was the statement that 'we have two US owned clubs in the Championship'. Untrue, we have two 'US celebrity owned clubs' but there are others...

Those two, us, Swansea, Pompey and Millwall off the top of my head, plus your big majority shareholder at West Brom & up the road. Wouldn't surprise me if there are a few more; Tom doesn't know his counterparts very well!

Article wouldn’t have been written if Birmingham weren’t away to Wrexham on Friday night.

It was indicative of the position he would take if Birmingham establish themselves as a Premier League club. Awash with money but prioritising that as little of it as possible goes to the wider sport.

There was an article I read several years ago now and sadly cannot find anymore but it essentially correlated a sport's long-term success with unpredictability. If it is a foregone conclusion that x y or z will win, what is the point for everyone else? Fans of the biggest clubs get bored too and seek new challenges, like a European Super League until that becomes predictable too! The Premier League's success (at the time of the article) was explained that far more teams could potentially win. Compare for example to the French league - PSG has won all but 2 of the last 13 titles - and they struggle to sell the TV rights internationally. American sports create this jeopardy through drafts and salary caps, essentially levelling the playing field. We used to have a competitive pyramid. Eroding this further will damage even the big clubs.

He's everything I'm glad we do not have in our ownership group here.

He constantly wants to be seen, he's brash and now he's talking about centralised power at the top of the game, something that we should be actively attempting to avoid in this country.

The power of the game in this country is the pyramid, the possibility that anyone can reach the Premier League, that anyone can be promoted or relegated in a given season.

Awful bloke.

I think I remember that article. Have a feeling it was in the Atlantic.

Was it looking at other leagues and what they were doing/talking about doing to stop the rot? Things like splitting the league in two at the half way point and putting everyone back to 0 points (so there are effectively two trophies on offer and it resets the league at the half way point for those in the top and bottom half respectively) and the idea of having the entire league leading up to a playoffs (which I think is a daft idea - you could get a team run away with it on 100 points and then lose in the playoff final and not win a trophy)?

I've heard this last bit suggested for the county championship in cricket, and I think it's not a bad idea in that case, - as the county game lacks a big showcase event, and also because luck with the weather to an extent means the best team did not necessarily finish top. Plus all the other counties' fans could get behind whoever is playing Surrey in the final.
