The poster meant understand possible motivations. Not trying to understand is wilful ignorance, which doesn’t help anyone.

Thank you - that’s exactly what I meant.

I certainly didn’t mean to imply that it was anything other than an appalling act by some misguided individual. It is still perhaps too early to examine the causes behind the rise in antisemitism when the community is feeling so raw and vulnerable.

i am struggling to understand how, given the way in which the police are currently interpreting speech laws, chanting “globalise the intifada” on the evening following this attack isn't clear incitement. if prosecutions don't follow it makes the law look ridiculous.

Agreed that those chants shouldn't be made at any time and doing it on the same day is utterly awful.

On X, I saw something going around about a senior NHS doctor who'd posted how he'd like to "kill all jews" - tweet since been deleted. I hope he will be facing severe consequences for that. It's hate speech and he needs to be prosecuted.

Shocked to hear on World at One today that there have been many previous incidents of Jewish patients getting verbal antisemitism from NHS staff. Appalling.

So would I be (don't have the actual figures, will look up later when have time) - but I was replying specifically to DJR's point that it's wrong to collectively blame the entire population for Netanyahu's monstrous behaviours when a) many didn't vote for him and b) by now even many of those who did vote for him have stopped supporting him; or indeed may now actively oppose him.

Think Israeli's are subject to a lot of mainstream media dis-information such that the govt still has quite a lot of support

Netanyahu had the Israeli version of the BBC dismembered, claiming it was biased against the government. They also now want to shut down its replacement, claiming the same thing.

Unfekkinbelievable!

Israel’s Diaspora Affairs Minister, Amichai Chikli, has said Israel will be hosting a visit by the Far Right activist known as Tommy Robinson in October.
In a message on X, Chikli said: “In the wake of the horrific Manchester terrorist attack, Israel and the Jewish people stand firmly with our allies in the United Kingdom.

On behalf of the State of Israel, I am proud to host British patriot @TRobinsonNewEra who will visit Israel in mid-October. Tommy is a courageous leader on the frontline against radical Islam,” he added.

“At a time when Jews across Europe face rising antisemitism, it is vital to strengthen bonds with allies who refuse to be silent. He has proven himself a true friend of Israel and the Jewish people, unafraid to speak the truth and confront hate. Israel will always stand with the Jewish community and our allies worldwide. Together with friends like Tommy Robinson, we will build stronger bridges of solidarity, fight terror, and defend Western civilization and our shared values.”

Robinson, a former member of the Far Right British National Party (BNP) whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon, has increasingly sought to present himself as an ally against antisemitism as he and others have promoted anti-Muslim positions.

"They break our legs and tell us to be grateful when they offer us crutches."
