Shingles 13:11 - Oct 2 with 779 views | Swailsey | So. I’ve been in mad upper body pain for 5 days and today a rash appeared and the GP has confirmed its shingles. Thankfully apart from the pain, I’m not feeling too unwell in any other way. He was extremely unclear about whether I can go out or not (the rash is small and on my stomach so can be hidden). Can the TWTD hive mind assist with this moral dilemma? I feel like I should stay at home really, even though the risk of passing on is slim. But Christ. The Norwich game. It’s like 2020 again in my mind.

Shingles on 13:17 - Oct 2 with 739 views | Guthrum | Technically, people could catch Chicken Pox from you, if they've never had it or been vaccinated, but only from physical contact with the sores. Nasty condition, hope you feel better soon.

I checked and he says you... "ain't got time to fix the shingles" before Sunday, so PM me and let me know from where I can pick up your ticket.

Shingles on 14:05 - Oct 2 with 576 views | Churchman | Shingles isn’t pleasant. I caught it (or had the virus when I travelled) out in America over 20 years ago. Tbh I felt ok, but the energy just wasn't there. On the return flight I was mega uncomfortable and when I got home I had a rash all down one side. Couldn’t sit down. The docs confirmed shingles the following day. I had a week off work because i was signed off, but I could and did work from home. I actually didn’t go out that week even though I was told the transmission risk was likely at that stage to be zero. I actually didn’t feel like it. It’s a nasty one and can reoccur. You can get vaccinated at 65 and anything that reduces the risk is worth it in my view.
Shingles on 14:10 - Oct 2 with 558 views | StokieBlue | Shingles has an extremely low r0 transmission rate because it's a reactivation of a dormant virus within you rather than something you've caught. You also can't pass on shingles, you would actually be giving someone chicken pox but even that is extremely unlikely and only if they haven't had it before and came into contact with the blisters. Shingles on 14:11 - Oct 2 with 551 views | DJR | This is what the NHS website says. "Stay away from certain groups of people if you have shingles You cannot spread shingles to others. But people could catch chickenpox from you if they have not had chickenpox before or have not had the chickenpox vaccine. This is because shingles is caused by the chickenpox virus. Try to avoid: anyone who is pregnant and has not had chickenpox before people with a weakened immune system – like someone having chemotherapy babies less than 1 month old" This suggests you are probably not too much of a danger at a football game but ultimately the decision is for you. EDIT: having reached 65 last year, I have had the first of two shingle vaccine shots, and your post reminds me that I need to follow up the second which is due around now. [Post edited 2 Oct 14:17]

Shingles on 14:12 - Oct 2 with 543 views | belgablue | I had it once. Had excruciating pain in my back, got given valium then a couple of days later the rash on my stomach appeared confirming it was shingles. Went on a stag weekend the next day. Being older and wiser now I'm not sure I'd hugely recommend it.

Shingles on 14:23 - Oct 2 with 476 views | ArnoldMoorhen | Wrap up well and wear gloves and there is as close to zero chance of transmission as is possible. If you scratch a sore and have the virus on your fingers and nails there is the possibility of transmission, but generally a low risk. Adults overwhelmingly don't "catch" shingles- it's a virus which has lain dormant for years from when they had chickenpox, and which stress or another factor can cause to flare up. Unless you are sitting with severely immuno-compromised people then if you wear a coat and gloves it should be almost impossible for you to infect somebody else.

Shingles on 20:54 - Oct 2 with 98 views | ronnyd | Missus had it a few years ago. It lasted for a couple years but decreasing slowly over that time. Also left her with intermittent discomfort called Post Herpatic Neuralgia.
