The referee for Sunday 10:10 - Oct 3 with 1093 viewsIP1Blue

Why have the EFL put Thomas Kirk on for this game. It’s only his 16th championship game with all the others mainly being in league one or two (71 games).

Just think a bit of common sense would of been in place here and they would have put a experienced referee on for this game.

To be fair I've never really noticed any correlation between experience and ability to referee a game at EFL level.

And Thomas Kirk awarded us two penalties the only time he previously refereed us! Think he's one being fast-tracked towards the Premier League.

To be fair, they all have to start somewhere. Might be the FA trying him out to see how he handles a big occasion. It's not exactly like people wouldn't have moaned if we ended up with an experienced ref either, as that doesn't make them a good ref by default.

Exactly. That preening dickhead that reffed that Blackburn game has loads of experience.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

Yeah I get that point. If anything when I think about it more, if we can really get a good atmosphere going and react to every decision, we are the more likely to benefit than they are if he cracks under the pressure even a little bit.

We will see though.

If we don't win, it will almost certainly be the referee's fault.

I'm more surprised that he is refereeing Swansea v Leicester tomorrow and then us on Sunday - referees don't normally do two matches in a weekend do they?

The EFL site is incorrect.

It was the linesmen's last time we played them at Portman Road!

The problem is how does Kirk gain experience of games like this if he never is allowed to ref them first ?

Everybody has to start somewhere in life, and ive no doubt we'd be blessed with the usual standard of EFL refereeing whoever they pick

To be honest, it’s better than their usual trick of sending us a PL ref who now can’t ref without VAR.

And PL referees are often card-happy when they drop down to the Championship as they struggle with the slightly less skilled players & challenges.
