Cov showing the way forward 14:19 - Oct 4 with 4247 views | nrb1985 | Coventry basically showing that our pragmatic approach is probably not the way forward in my opinion. For whatever reason we are playing incredibly passively this season in a low block, despite an embarrassment of riches in terms of playing staff and resources. This is particularly frustrating given nobody other than Cov appear to be playing on the front foot this season. So many draws, nobody other than Boro putting down much of a marker. I do wonder how much better off we'd be points wise had we actually come out of the blocks looking to attack teams and assert some pressure from the off. The three away games have been a really tough watch so far. Just so frustrating to watch us not press home our advantage so far. Hopefully we can put that right starting tomorrow. But in a very worst case scenario, Cov could be out of sight by the time we decide we want to play on said front foot. [Post edited 4 Oct 14:22]

We keep a lot of possession but go nowhere with it. No wonder our possession stats are high. We haven’t seemed to create many chances & when we try, our centre forwards ball control is awful & the move breaks down & we give away possession. The Sheffield Utd game was an exception where they gave us way more space. It’s been frustrating & we almost look like a Gareth Southgate side at times. We did not play this way two seasons ago. Whatever it is that we are trying to do, has yet to show itself.

Very few signings made and even those signings are not playing. Essentially they are showing the rewards and benefits of building a team and how it can progress and flourish once they build understanding as a group. I expect us to do similar but with better players and higher ceiling. Coventry have and excellent and very settled side. I expect them to go up. We have every chance to do it this season or next as well.

two seasons ago, we weren't the scalp we are now we're a parachute team with a multi-million pound squad. it's people's cup final now in the same way leeds were 2 years ago, we adapt, we evolve

It's not just teams raising their game because we're a scalp (see how Preston reacted when they beat us), it's teams adapting their tactics. Classic example being the Bristol City game, where we're playing a team going well in the top 6, and even at home they go with a low block and counter-attack ("transition" my arse) game plan against us.

'You' does kind of make it sound like you support another club. Not being someone who can ever remember who posters are (or in real life, to be honest) is that the case with you?

Cov showing the way forward on 15:39 - Oct 4 by Herbivore | Your characterisation of our play is way off. We don't set up in a low block at all. We've been trying to take the game to opponents but it's not always worked as we aren't fully clicking yet. Coventry have a settled side that ended last season well, hence being a more cohesive attacking force currently. |
It's not way off, it's ludicrous. There are phases of play where we try to draw opponents out of their low block by easing off on them for a bit, but to call it a low block is beyond nuts.

I do agree that, at times, we appear passive but often I think that we are trying to attract the press in order to play through it and create an overload. Also, however one wants to charactarise our style, perhaps ( almost certainly in my opinion), KM is trying to embed a style that he thinks will be more effective than last time for when we get promoted back to the Premier League
Cov showing the way forward on 08:32 - Oct 5 with 135 views | Len_Brennan | There is something in what the OP is saying, but it is a time & place scenario this early in the season & it is missing a lot of further context also, most of which has been covered by subsequent posters re: new v settled team, how we are viewed & how other teams set up against us etc. Also, we are very much in advanced planning mode for another crack at the PL (next season!) & have purposely & controversially dismantled a team that was similar to what Coventry are now - a tight settled unit, coached to attack quickly & effectively on the counter, with sharp plays. Coventry are a smashing side & I hope they do go up, but if they do, they will have to do a complete Sunderland on getting up, or will come straight back down as stronger PL sides will just cut right through them. We are preparing to be a much stronger, more adaptable PL readyish side, with far less surgery required, but it means we have had to start again on teamwork, patterns of play etc., albeit with a significant upgrade on players & depth in the squad; that all takes a bit of time. The other thing we do have is a quandary at the position of central #10, which is a bit of a roadblock for us, in a very important area. Despite having 2 quality, 20+ goalscorers available to play there, neither has yet demonstrated that he can be the man to knit our play together in a way that sees us regularly opening opposing sides up, as our goals are coming from the left wing - from Philogene, Clarke & through Davis. Once we start passing sharply through the centre, like maybe Coventry do with Grimes, Rudoni (injured yesterday & still got 5) & Wright, we will be a different prospect.
