Done his best to give the ball away tonight. At least he tries things though.

Given the ball away a few times now, but also looking lively and trying to make things happen

Interestingly the 'little fouls' that Jaden kept getting seemed to have stopped now and Jack Clarke is able to stay on his feet

He is guilty at times of not taking the positive option

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Great ball just now.

Otherwise he's taken too many touches and given the ball away endlessly.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Abysmal performance by Clarke tonight, nowhere near good enough.

Cheers,

That's very very harsh. Well not harsh but wrong. How was it abysmal?

I thought it was just some really good and dangerous stuff. Best his man and pull back for Azon. And the cross from Azon was class.

The bad was gave it away a few times. One thing I noticed that I didn't like it he just left his man free at corner. Very little interest in defending a corner. That's a little bit us. We do have one or two who don't have the desire to defend needed to be a top team.

But he's certainly not abysmal. One of our main threats.

We need to use the right with Egeli more as well now though.

His worst cameo in some time but he still delivered a brilliant cross for Azón and linked up for an excellent move with Greaves, regrettably sent into row Z by Taylor. We should be reflecting on a winning assist to complement his winning goals.

Kept giving the ball away, kept turning into trouble, kept over-hitting simple passes, and his body language was awful from the moment he went on.

I didn’t say he was abysmal, I said his performance tonight was abysmal - and it was.

No I know you were talking about tonight, that was an error in my sentence.

But abysmal is miles over the top. He did some good things and some poor things tonight absolutely. I didn't like how he had no interest defending a corner and sticking to his man.

Body language wise he's forever been the same. No lack of effort though really as he did work his nuts off after he gave the ball away.

He's languid. When it doesn't come off it looks so so sloppy. But he uses it to lure defenders in as well.

He had half an hour. Akpom had 79 minutes. The latter has NEVER scored a goal for Town. Clarke has 5 this season. Singling out Clarke is bizarre behaviour. There are many who are stealing a living, but he is not one of them.

OK maybe abysmal is a bit harsh. As others have rightly pointed out, he’s been one of our best players this season, which just makes it all the more baffling that he was so out of sorts tonight.

I didn’t say he was stealing a living - just that I thought his performance tonight was abysmal.

As for Akpom, yeah not convinced by him yet at all.

Clarke got a heavy kick soon after coming on, having held on to the ball too long.
He wasn’t the same after that.
It was a poor cameo and I’ve been critical of his physicality in the past but, given his form, I’d cut him some slack on that.

A very compact defence sitting deep desperately working hard for their point, at least 2 players constantly shadowing him. Operating high up the pitch with little space to work in or run into. I think your expectations are too high. He worked hard, almost opened up shooting options and kept the ball alive mainly. Of course he has skills and will always take on one player too many and get dispossesed, but that is the nature of it, he was rolling the dice and hoping for a good outcome. Sooner that than what a lot ot of the other players offered in the last minutes of the match.

This is the thing. If we want creative players who can try to beat a man and pick open a stubborn defence we have to accept it wont always come off. Of course he could just stat build and recycle the ball safe to one of his defenders but nobody wants to see that when you're chasing a goal.

Exactly this. We’re all describing the same player on this thread. Gave the ball away softly, ran into trouble, but should have had at least one assist if not for hopeless finishing.
