Embarrassing, on a side note how can anyone who has threatened at least three countries with invasion/hostile takeover be getting any peace prizes.

Especially when he finds out it's for actual football, not that Nancies & Fairies League thing.

No idea at all - on a side note I found this amusing gif and thought I’d paste it into my reply. It has absolutely no relevance to the post, I simply found it amusing.

WTF has peace got to do with football anyway? Bizarre. Infantino is a great name for the guy.

Not sure I can bring myself to watch the World Cup next year. As a competition it's become so tainted by FIFA corruption and general self-serving nonsense that I've lost a lot of interest in it. Even when we made the semis in 2018 I found it hard to really care all that much.

At the risk of 'virtue signalling' (shudder), I didn't watch a single minute of the last one. I'm sure I could cope with skipping this one too.

Add in a series of highly questionable recent choices as hosts - and am with you.

That said - am sure I'll slowly get sucked in as the tournament progresses - which is more down to my weakness than anything else.

Am a stage in life where I could easily go and enjoy the world cup in person - but I won't - primarily for the location and the over hyped sh1t show it's become. A world cup in a country that lives and breathes footie and I'd likely consider it.

I know I am a bit nostalgic but Italy 90 really was the high point - fooking awesome and before following England became fashionable.

I enjoy World Cup football generally so i watched a lot of the Qatari one but I dislike advertising and sponsoring tied into sports events (and those intrusive and demeaning electronic advertising boards around pitches) so when I do note a name trying to cash in on something that has nothing to do with them (Barcelona's UNICEF shirts excepted) I purposefully avoid using them if possible. I've only started using my VISA card in the last year and I still haven't bought a Costa (but that may be because there are many better coffees around.)

Interesting - a sort of rejection of all advertising - or just sponsorship?

Sports washing is definitely an issue, albeit am not really at the stage of boycotting anyone - even have an old pension with Aviva ffs.

I think you have to be selective in what you boycott. Back in the 70s and 80s turning away from South African goods definitely seemed to have an effect and it was in unison with anti-apartheid action within South Africa. Elsewhere though it can seem like it is only likely to pull the rug from under people who are already struggling, perhaps an example would be not buying a chicken take-away in Central America because you know that a chunk of the price goes to one of the families that control a nation but if everyone did that the locals would lose what little employment opportunities they have (and you would go hungry because finding a meal that isn't pollo in Latino land is fecking difficult.)

It's just a mental note thing, I see something unpleasant and associate with purchases or payments to avoid if possible. And I've still never banked with Barclays even though they are much reformed, didn't even consider them when I worked for companies who needed a different banking service.

Was well into the Apartheid boycott - remember once filling a basket full of SA goods and at the checkout, one by one stating "All look, made in South Africa, I'll have to leave that"

A load of goods for the store to restock - and they did eventually stop stocking them too, before anyone gets too upset at my attempts at direct action :-)

And once had a recruitment consultant try to encourage an application for a position at Barclays - he was quite shocked when I said I'd not even consider it due to their history - bloke had no idea bless.

That genuinely made me laugh. I think if old Gianni did that the World Cup would be cancelled in a fit of ketchup-hurling pique.

What?!

How is that remotely comparable to creating a peace prize just so the Fifa president can give something shiny to Donald Trump?!
