Showing why I was gutted we loaned him out for the entire season.

Where did I say people are up in arms or going wild?

My post was questioning why it is "an obviously strange situation". I didnt even mention any fees.

Agrees with your last 4 words as we should do with any Town player.

Implied with "can we all get a bit real here". I wasn't having a pop. Just responding with some thoughts.

Poll: Who do we think McKenna (not you) will partner Greaves with ?

Really? I still don’t get the furrow around McKenna sending him out on loan. He hardly set the world alight in those first few games - albeit coming back from a long term injury - and we ended up signing one of the biggest prospects in Europe beating off the likes of Porto, Club Brugge and PSV to his signature.

Think it was perfectly reasonable for him to go out on loan and hopefully perform well enough that he either comes back and does have some role with us, or manage to sell him for similar to what we paid.

A little disingenuous KK not to mention the signing of McAteer in your post don’t you think?
Walle-Egeli is a very different prospect to Ogbene. McAteer is decidedly more similar. To keep a squad place open for Wes Burns (who in August was still months off game time) whilst sending an £8 million purchase who was closing in on full fitness out on a no recall loan was a very questionable decision to say the least

The weirdest decision of the summer / the biggest nonsense in terms of how it was explained.

A player we thought good enough to play in PL, paid big money for, lots of experience. Strong, powerful.

Whilst still on the way back to fitness, and not quite there, he was only a few weeks off, not months and months.

And we let him go for the whole season "to re-build fitness"?
Till January, yep, maybe, that would have made sense. Then see how Burns is doing &/or if we need to buy.

But for the whole season? Absolute nonsense, no logic at all. McKenna clearly changed his mind on him.

I think it could be entirely possible that after sustaining his serious achilles injury, the medical team may have voiced some doubts whether he would ever get back to his previous level, specifically pace related. Of course I could be wide of the mark, but just a thought.

Why wouldn't he get a game ahead of McAteer? He gets a game ahead of McAteer every single Ireland game.

I'll back and Support Mcateer to progress and improve and become a player for us. But right now it is really odd. We would have £12 million still in our pocket. Leicester may have had to sell Fatawu or in trouble and we would quite arguably have a better option for the here and now in Ogbene.

It is what it is now and Ogbene has had a slow start with Sheffield United. But I'll never really understand that one.

He wouldn’t get a game because he was coming off the back of a long term injury and I suspect McKenna fancied a ready made player in McAteer who he knew could deal with the demands of the Championship over Ogbene who we didn’t know would fare. The price tag isn’t McAteer’s fault and he’s started to get in to games a little more the past 2-3 games.

I’m very happy with McAteer over Ogbene, and looks like McKenna is too. As others have mentioned, he hardly set the world alight before his injury, he hardly set the world alight after his injury and he’s hardly set the world alight at Shef United. One half decent game against Portugal doesn’t change the fact.

Poll: We’ve got super KM, he knows exactly what we need. Woolfie at the back…

I’ve tried to be subtle, but let’s face it, but it’s not a hard concept is it. McKenna had changed his mind on Ogbene and didn’t fancy him this season. And that’s okay, no hardship in that. Put it down to a bad purchase all round and move on the best we can from it.

As I say, I season of 35/40+ games and hopefully we get a decent return on him.

I completely agree with that, he doesn’t fancy him anymore. Expensive mistake. No idea why you were trying to be subtle!

But it would be better to have him as an option to return in January, rather than not. That remains an odd decision.
