22 days, 7 games, 4 strong opponents - time to move into 4th gear 22:32 - Nov 19 with 2061 viewsunstableblue

Sat > Tues > Fri > Tues > Sat > Weds > Sat

Wrxhm h > Hull a > Oxfrd a > Blkbn a > Cov h > Stoke h > Leics a

That’s about as an intense block as you can get - Cov, Stoke and Hull are top five for form

Season defining? - maybe

2PPG possible? - difficult as Blackburn a lottery

Time for McKenna’s squad rotation to pay dividends - a set of players ready and drilled

Time for goals and assists from a wider group of players, Akpom and Egeli goals

A moment for the defence to solidify

Oxford away a banker?

A period when the new squad could be fully integrated and embraced by the fan base

I’m going WDWLWWD - 14 points

Really looking forward to it - COYFB!

Yes, probably season defining but not club defining.

I was interested in what Ashton had to say when glued to his coffee cup at the training ground and the three of them at the fans forum.

At lot of the stuff on the latter wasn’t particularly interesting to me, but the proposals re the infrastructure, how KM, MA, Schwartz and the owners interact did interest me.

Maybe I’m being mugged off or not reading it right through blind hope and optimism, but I got a real sense that come what may they see the roadmap/future for this club and they’re not going to be deflected.

They just came across as organised and tight. My fear was that they were going to flip the club for a profit sooner rather than later. They might do that still, but I got no sense of it.

So regardless of how the next six weeks goes, I think it’s a case of not to wet the bed if it goes poorly (as the no doubt the usuals will) because the club is going the right way. Not to get over excited either if we do well, because a lot can happen in the new year - and the club is still going the right way.

In other words, enjoy the ride and remember where we were, where we are and hopefully where we are going. Exciting times.

I think this where we may see our strength and depth pay dividends and think we might surprise in this run of games.

Good points

Not getting freaked out and negative if the results aren’t quite as hoped for, and not 2PPG… if we get to Sheff Weds at home an we’re still only 6 points off second.. then we’re still in a great place

As for Ashton, the owners/backers and the project that emerging training building is massive for our progression… a magnet for McKenna and new higher calibre players - we’ll feel a different club when that opens

We’ll be PREMIER LEAGUE… mahoosive

Can’t quite decide if we will hit that 4th gear… and the 5th needed to beat Coventry.. and excel in this run

Still a concern on defence, goals at home, Akpom, Cajuste, McAteer not yet firing.

Do hope you’re right we surprise the league (and frankly a third of our fan base!) and go on a serious run… if we do I think it will last a lot longer than these 7 games

Coventry, Stoke and Hull are 1st, 3rd and 5th not just top 5 for form. They are 1st, 3rd and 4th for form. We well know there are no easy games in the Championship. It's where the squad depth should help but injury, form, etc all play into it. We currently miss too many players when we make changes.

Wrexham are 6th in the form table and have only conceded 7 goals in their 7 away matches.
Hull have W5, D2, L1 at home (the same record as Preston).
Whilst Oxford should be the easiest of them, they have drawn with Coventry and Leicester at home and it will be an evening match.
Blackburn we struggled against when we tried before (albeit the pitch didn't help but a December one is likely not going to be a great one either.
Leicester's home record this season is W2 D4 L1.

Ultimately we need to be winning more games than we fail to win. To get 2 ppg is going to take at least 4 wins from those 7 but that's what we need to do to get back on course.

I can't see why Blackburn gets this mythical difficult game status. They're a bottom six side, we're pulling things together nicely, and it [probably] won't rain again!

If we’re are still in touching distance of 2nd (6 points or under) after this block and heading into the Sheff Weds home game… we’ll have done very well, and will be in a great place to kick on and really go for the automatics.

But as you say it’s going to be tough. A lot of travelling to boot.

Wrexham (H) 2-1 Win
Hull (A) 2-2 Draw
Oxford (A) 1-2 Win
Blackburn (A) 0-0 Draw
Coventry (H) 2-2 Draw
Stoke (H) 1-0 Win
Leicester (A) 2-0 Lose
12 points from a possible 21 and a tough run of games.
We’re going to need goals from all over the pitch including defenders I think, Hirst, Azon and Akpom aren’t really hitting the heights.

I don’t think Blackburn are a poor side, they were giving us issues prior to the pitch becoming unplayable.

But I think it’s more that the club, fans, players and manager feel injustice at the game being called off, and this is going to something to motivate and energise the team.

Agree, they are certainly going to feel aggrieved and want to put right what they feel was a lost Three points. Currently winning at Preston too, not an easy rematch at all.

And a number of good players

What impressed me is that they left three players up field in the last 10mins and didn’t go deep and sit in
