Don't trust SWE defensively away from home when his services there are more likely to be needed. Not that McAteer played particularly well, but he works hard. Agree re Akpom, he is bigger than Azon, so don't see why he can't play the 9 role, as long as he's prepared to put the graft in. [Post edited 25 Nov 2025 22:02]

I felt Clarke was at least trying to make things happen. Philogene was much better though. I think we always look better after the subs as we have real depth and teams struggle with it. We're lucky to have both options.

There was a hint at the end there with Egeli in as a No.10 too. Options are good and would like to see Akpom as aNo.9 for a run too.

Contrary to a lot of understandable opinion, Akpom can be a #10 but more the sort of #10 who plays as a second striker off a #9, rather than the sort who brings the overlapping wide players in. I'd really like to see him get a few games as a straight #9.

Yeah he moved inside just after doing a lovely little flick that sent us clear. So much class, he's going to be quite something under McKenna's tuition. SB

Thought Mcateer was solid enough tonight. It was good to see JP make a real impact off the bench, because he hasn’t done in previous games he’s started as sub. The fact that we have such depth in that post gives our opponents a massive headache

"Don't trust SWE defensively away from home when his services there are more likely to be needed." What is this based on? He presses relentlessly and puts in a shift defensively. SB

Yes. I thought Clarke struggled to find the space that Philogene found. Clarke has credit in the bank which McAteer doesn’t. I’ll be glad to see Wes Burns back in contention.

mcateer may be used against blackburn, wouldn't have thought he's suited for the oxford game
