| At the 17 game gone point… 06:45 - Nov 29 with 1163 views | PioneerBlue | P17 PTS 27 W7 D6 L4 F 28 A 18 PPG 1.58 I need to make a bit of sense of where we are at. I cant describe myself as pleased with that return, im not surprised, but it makes more difficult reading looking at how easy Coventry are finding the season. Im taking a positive view by comparing where we are at versus Leicester and Soton, similar points but both have had such turmoil, and our strength is apparently leadership consistency. I suggest we are anything but consistent on the pitch at this stage so the show of strength must be around the corner. Where is this not working. Big moments. Im simplifying, we make it too easy for opponents to find a big moment and we seem to concede when they do, we are finding it too difficult to create and take our own big moments and then convert to goals to win games, its not as simple as not scoring or conceding to many goals. People will point to XG. They would be right to do that, we are about second and performing well comparing XGd, and we are about second in the table overall. The most recent example being last night. We cant go a whole half with 70% possession but not carve out shots on goal let along goals. Weve got to be more ruthless and goal hungry, in the form we have been in we could be scoring 2-3-4 goals each game and putting the game out of reach. Jan cant come soon enough to adjust the attacking balance and back-up Matisiwa. [Post edited 29 Nov 19:14]

| At the 17 game gone point… on 07:24 - Nov 29 with 1059 views | Esseeja | As I've stated a few times in previous threads, this is admittedly cherry-picking, but if you remove the 4 games we have scored 3 or more in, then; 13 played 15 points 13 goals 15 conceded -2 goal difference. Regarding those 4 games; Sheff Utd at home in the state they were in, especially with Godfrey's performance that day, my word... Norwich, with how awful they are this season, the injuries they had at the time. They are massively performing to a degree I've never seen before in any team, they are a mess right now... Clinical finishing against a decent QPR side, with 2 of those goals coming from Nunez's free kicks... The 4-1 away win against an unbelievably poor Swansea side in their manager's last game before they got sacked, and, up to now, have only won once in their last 9 games... that being against Norwich. There are serious concerns as to the teams below us right now who could genuinely pose a threat to us now. Also concerns for a team above us. Stoke have a point more in their last 5 games than us. Preston have managed the same amount of points as us in the last 5. Derby are on a very good run. Birmingham and Wrexham are finally kicking on and are in very good form themselves. Southampton are about to skyrocket up the league themselves. Coventry are a distant memory now, but comparing them to us at this point is unnecessary. That's 6 teams that pose a threat to us, and Coventry who will most likely occupy one of those 6 spots for the rest of the season, comfortably promoted most likely. I think we should be doing so much better. [Post edited 29 Nov 7:25]

We sit in the top 6, a win and a draw from being Second with practically a new team that’s still coming together. 29 games to go.

Which would be fine. But we dont appear to be getting better each game. Think thats the thing. If we had the odd non win thats football. But weve not really had 'that' game for a while where everything looked positive. Weve had wins sure but the performances have been erm not very eye friendly.

Where's it gone wrong is far too many players who should be nailed on starters and the constant rotation to keep them happy, play the best side and stick with it. Also play players in their actual best positions. Possession means nothing if it did we'd likely be above Cov.

We’ve just lost One in Seven, winning Three out of Four away games. Performances are erratic but the very fact that we have been closer than ever to Second means we must essentially be improving.

I agree. I can’t confidently say we will be able to capitalise, we just aren’t that TEAM at the moment.

The trio behind the number 9, where we were once so good, we are now so poor - the biggest downgrade across that area you could imagine. Needs to be addressed before we can start thinking about being a good side again. Burns - Chaplin - Szmodics. Very very simple.
| At the 17 game gone point… on 17:27 - Nov 29 with 607 views | FromReuserWithLove | The narrative over the past two seasons has excused failure. Are those at the club so focused on the long term developments that they’ve taken their eye off the ball somewhat? The unwavering determination to win just isn’t there with this squad. Different motivations and im not convinced that will change. The season this far has been a serious underachievement and no amount of spin can detract from that. We have to hope they find some kind of rhythm but nothing convincingly suggests that they will. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

I suppose add more that that then. Going into December you would expect us to be a much more well oiled machine. But we arent and we are scraping our way to results rather than showing what should be extra levels of performances against those we play.

Totally agree with this post as at the moment we’re too slow dull and predictable.

Then it’s lucky the season doesn’t end on 30th November.

I didn't realise that stat but the laboured way in which we play and lack of final ball it's no surprise. Other than yet more signings I just don't see what is going is going to change. Will we suddenly click - no, the constant rotation means no consistent game time. Will the tactics change - highly unlikely, plan a, followed by plan a with subs. Will January signings if we can get them work - who knows but we'd need to clear a few at big losses too. Rather than the typical downvote or budgie in disguise nonsense please explain why you think we will suddenly improve. [Post edited 30 Nov 9:20]

If i may be so bold this is not a uniquely negative perspective but it completely misses how our team has developed and evolved in each of the KMck seasons with thr exception of the PL season. This is what he does, gets a group of players, coaches, works on improving things that need improving snd adjusting the emphasis accordingly. We might not see the whole improvement this season but improve we will over a period of time, that’s augmented with windows to make the faster adjustments where players cant gwt there in short term.
