Not really sure why McK doesn’t play his best team from the start

Isn’t that the problem, though, that we don’t have an obvious ‘best team’? Maybe three or four pick themselves… the rest all operating at a 6/10 level.

I find it baffling as well, how do you get a settled team with so many changes all the time? I’m normally on board with Kieran’s decisions but even I am struggling to understand the constant tinkering. They are full time athletes they should be able to cope with three games in a week surely?

No wonder we can’t get the patterns of play and look like strangers on the pitch.

Really is quite frustrating. Why not start with a consistent 11 and just make early subs if they tire? In KM we trust but I thought we may have learned from the Charlton game that nothing can be taken for granted.

We have made this number of changes for over 2 seasons now. Why is everyone surprised?

It’s not 1981 when we had only 14 players to choose from.

The front 4 rotates most games, particularly when there is a midweek game.

Tinkerman McKenna at it again. Another 5 changes. No wonder the players are confused and haven’t gelled. That said it will be the same side ways passing with no penetration & then at 70 minutes when he decides to make some changes the same frantic panic trying to save the game and with no real goal threat. Let’s hope he gets lucky tonight with the changes as the longer this goes on, the more likely it is that we will fall further away from automatic promotion and then the play offs. Really disappointing that McKenna can’t/wont change and clearly doesn't know who his best players are (despite bringing most of them into the club) or have a plan B.

Yeah, we'd all like a settled team, but which players have actually played their way into it on an individual level?

I’m just waiting to actively notice the positive impact it’s supposed to have on freshness in legs and more energy.
Supposedly, that is the reason for doing it. McKenna has been at it all season. I’m just wondering when it benefits outweigh the negatives?

If only it were 1981. On the field, anyway.

Your point on 14 man squads is fine but that doesn’t make our approach correct. It’s too much change for me all the time.

If we win 3-0 with all goals in the first 60, I look like a dickhead and I’m fine with that.

Exactly. If someone was being super effective and reliable they would play every time.
See: Matusiwa and lately Taylor, and Davis and O'Shea .
Our forwards are completely unreliable.

And Kieran regularly giving detailed answers on why he’s doing it (and will keep doing it).

It’s so unworthy of comment at this point.

I just think we need to see where we are in a few months time to decide if it has worked or now.

Do I think it is helping our performances now? Probably not, but the season is a long old slog, and we'll find out if our approach has worked in due course.

I’ve no issue with it. Whichever team we put out is stuffed full of individual quality. They shouldn’t be strangers any more either; they should be more than used to players swapping in and out.

But to counter that, you could easily name the starting 11 in our league one season, and to a large extent the Championship promotion. It will of course be scrutinised when we are underperforming - people are looking for answers as to why we aren’t getting the best out of our squad.

There’s a middle ground between unquestioningly accepting our current strategy, and of course the hysterical KM out stuff (which admittedly is a noisy minority).

Maybe but also if you always know your best 11 it means you don’t have a squad and most people agree to win anything you need a squad.

It's bleeding obvious that the likelihood is that a bigger, fitter squad will outlast others.

Oh, we should definitely be doing better in this league this year.

I’m no great fan of our bore the opposition to death with a million passes going nowhere either because we aren’t really good enough to do that and when we give the ball away the opposition have a great chance to score too.

Coventry are like us from 2 years ago and lovely to watch. We are frankly very dull with the occasional worldie from Jaden at home when given space.

I agree. And perhaps getting ahead of myself but we’re trying to drill a style of football that (if!!) we go up, everyone is better at. Sunderland have shown that it’s not possession that counts and trying to draw a press from better teams just isn’t necessary.
