You’ve played every minute of the last two games - 2 massive wins! PLUS, you scored an absolute belter on Wednesday and worked your socks off.

But you’re benched today. You might even see Kasey McAteer get a start - you like him, he’s a great team mate, but he hasn’t contributed a second to those 2 massive wins.

Surely you deserve to go again, with Egeli or Clarke on the opposite side.

The manager says it’s for the best, and things are going great - but be honest, are you p*ssed off, even just a tiny bit?

I don't think so. I think they're all genuinely bought into the 'starters/finishers' concept and he knows that running at a tired defence as a finisher is a good opportunity.

He and the sports science department will also know much better than us the 'load' he's put on his body - apparently does more running than Leif even. If part of the reason for being a finisher is reducing injury risk then they're all smart about that these days.

Edited: In response to your 'just a little bit' - you would hope that everyone would be marginally disappointed at not starting. I guess the real question is whether the players recognise the bigger picture and are bought into that.

If you want to feel sorry for someone what about the forgotten five who don’t make match day squad on a regular basis and could be out on loan, or sold, if we want to strengthen the squad.

It’s not a case of deserving to again.

Squad rotation is designed to give everyone the best chance or remaining injury free and match fit. It’s a tough balance to get right but it’s not a reflection of Philogene’s contribution if he’s on the bench today, I think that’s clear for everyone to see and he’ll know that himself. He would also be replaced by Clarke, not McAteer who would come in on the right.

It’s a devils advocate kind of post really, just to prompt the discussion.

Today is an interesting day, as Stoke was definitely a change of approach (basically unchanged). We’ve also seen Clarke coming on at RW in the last two, as we wanted Jaden till the end. So if he’s important and in form, in a big game, today’s team sheet will really show if Kieran has dialled down the rotation at all.

Jaden starts 40 games at most other clubs in this league.*

*if he stays injury free, as Kieran would point out.

Sadly (sensibly ?) I can see the “away” changes today

Egeli out , Jaden out and Hirst back in but other than that , as it was

I dont believe that for a second.

Intellectually they may understand and accept it all. Instinctively, most footballers want to play football.

It's a good discussion and there's definitely a tricky balance to get right there. I think the fact that we don't have a mid-week game might impact the rotation but we don't know what minor niggles/recovery issues there were after Wednesday.

I get that - I think it comes down to whether it's that natural level of "I just want to play" or whether the rotation causes genuine motivational issues - "It doesn't matter how well I do he'll just drop me to the bench" kind of thinking.

No, because I know the deal and work in an environment daily in which the deal is consistently communicated. Let's not create something from nothing (some hope ...).

I actually don’t think this will happen, but -

Would it not seem a bit mad if our chosen XI today has McAteer in, but not Philogene? Would that not be something Leicester would celebrate?

(Nothing personal against McAteer - purely based on form.)

Anyone who has ever played football at any remotely sensible level knows that you do the training etc because you want to play on Saturday. I dont care how much you understand, intellectually, the rotation policy; instinctively it will be frustrating and sometimes more, if you are benched when fit and ready to go.

Well, being peed off because you’re ambitious and want to play every minute but respect the reasoning is very different to entitlement and petulance.

I suspect Jaden, like Clarke it seems, is the former. Therefore, no issues.

Yes, not suggesting for a second that he’d go all Salah on us.

Just a question about what’s best for the momentum and ‘vibes’ of Jaden (and the team).

I know I'm currently manager's favourite. I know I haven't been dropped due to performance. I know my competition is Clarke, possibly Szmodics, not McAteer.

Am I anxious or annoyed because I fear a top performance from my replacement? How self-confident am I?
Am I annoyed because I know my body best, not my running vest or the medical team? Do I buy into this science stuff?

Those are my unknowns Chris, to give me a good shot at answering for the man.
