Not a chance of top 2 16:22 - Dec 13 with 4611 viewsIP1Blue

We’re not consistent enough.

Our general play has been so far below par all season.

Jack Taylor was our 4th choice and 5th choice in midfield in last 2 seasons and now is starting games, fair enough he was good in a couple but the last couple of games shows why he was 4th and 5th choice.

Hirst and Azon are not good enough and that’s now a fact after 20 games.

Away from home we look a different team.

And if we go behind, it almost feels as if we’ve got no chance of winning a game. A complete opposite to our previous promotion team. If the going gets tough. We crumble which is a massive concern.

Play offs is the maximum we can get.

"Not a chance"

I disagree. Still over half the season to go. Lot's of small things not quite working for us that can still come good. A transfer window to come. Cov and Mids may yet implode.

Yes Town have made it hard for themselves. But I still have hope.

I have hope but it is slim (it appears a few others on here are basically thinking the same).

We need to pull of hell of a winning run in addition to one of the top 2 imploding for a good 4/5 game spell. On the evidence so far thats not going to happen...

To stand any chance of making a top 2 challenge now, we need to sort out the CAM and CDM positions (cover) quickly, and possibly a new striker in Jan (the type who can feed off the half chances we create in the not so good performances so far).

I still think we miss a real physical option like Moore up top, when we change up to a direct approach.

Boro and Coventry have had some injuries already and have managed it well. We haven’t took advantage of our squad yet and have just been chopping and changing every week. We also have had minimal injuries so far apart from Szmodics.

This first half of the season has been nothing short of messy

Took us 37 games to lose 5 games when we previously went up and have already lost 5 this season after 21 games.

I honestly think the squad is unbalanced and overrated. I hope I get proven wrong but on current viewing I don’t think I will.

Not true. We have lost Burns and Townsend. Burns tore apart the Championship two years ago, and Townsend who played well in his limited Premier appearances would have allowed Davis some much needed rest.

Just bumping this thread from a couple of weeks ago to show how quickly football can change and why reactive absolutist posts rarely age well.

There's still a lot of football to be played and ultimately where we are in May is what matters most, but writing off our automatic promotion hopes less than halfway through the season was always completely daft.

Some of the comments were completely fair and still valid but writing us off from top 2 was also a mistake from some considering the league doesn’t have decent consistent parachute clubs like the last two years.

Boro have nosed dived and we’ve go the points where I said “we can talk”.

Now we are talking, which is good! Didn’t think we were ever out of it.

Poll: Ok gut feeling then, promotion?

Still think you are right, we aren’t consistent enough and we will be very wobbly up until the final game of the season. I don’t fancy us in the playoffs. So we need to scrape the top 2, am not at all convinced though.

Alot of posts dont age well. But thats the glory of a forum.

Lots can change. Just like we could go on a losing run now and this bump is bumped again as weve fallen down to 7th. I doubt it tho with jan coming and town playing well

Ill admit in my side. I did not see us beating Coventry twice and boro imploding inside the space of a few weeks.

What we do all want now tho is to see the business end of the season out and finish in the promotion places :)

a niche perspective

Lot's in this thread said they thought top 2 were gone (no names mentioned of course ;).

And this time you're right - it just shows how quickly things can change. GB posted elsewhere that 2 seasons ago were were 8 pts behind Sheff Weds (who'd also got a game in hand) and we overhauled them easily. Pretty much the same has happened again. We've been more consistent, those above us have had a mare - et voila, we'll have the 2nd spot, thank you very much.

Will it continue? Who knows! Signs are good, the underlying stats are even better (interesting blog by someone on here the other day setting these out). But what goes up can come down so I'll not be counting my chickens before the crows come home to roost :).

Poll: Right now, who would you rather have as Prime Minister?
