Excellent. Now what we need to do is tune his partners into picking up the second balls he creates in the same way Mass did with Morsy. The disruptor is doing his job, the anticipation of the guy next to him needs to improve - whoever that is.

It's 106 miles to Portman Road, we've got a full tank of gas, half a round of Port Salut, it's dark... and we're wearing blue tinted sunglasses.

Yet he can’t tackle or pass.

Downvote all you like, stats don’t lie.

RIP Sir Bobby

86% successful pass rate. As you say, stats don’t lie …

Not sue many have been critical of him as he's one of the better signings overall despite the odd horror pass.

I like what you are trying to achieve but think it's more the 'team' as a whole people not taking to?

Only 13 players have made more tackles than him. Interestingly, no player from the teams above us have made more.

I like Matusiwa but pass success percentage is one of the least relevant statistics to how good a player is.

You say "part 1" in the subject heading. I look forward to the other parts, because very few need convincing of Matusiwa's quality and effectiveness this season.

I think a number of our signings have been mediocre to poor. But he is categorically not one of them. Which is a very very fine thing given the state of our midfield last season, and the fact that (to put it neutrally) we lost Morsy.

Matusiwa has that quality which classy diminutive central midfielders show, which is that he makes it look as though he has loads of time on the ball. I don't how that kind of player does it, but there's an awareness and swiftness which makes it look as if he has everything under control, and he has the time he needs to do the crucial but simple things really well.

I really like Matusiwa but I think he has a narrower bandwidth when it comes his qualities than Morsy did. He's great at breaking up play but doesn't have the sort of quality Morsy had on the ball (rather deceptively at times I might add) or offer the same sort of drive. Getting a partner that works alongside him and compliments his qualities is really important in January.

We'll have to disagree on that then. I can't imagine what things would be like if most of the passes went astray. Saw a lot of that last season, and it had us constantly under pressure as we lost possession.

Totally agree, he's certainly up to speed now but for me too he hasn't that brilliant touch and at times he does loosely give the ball away in crucial areas of the pitch, luckily more often than not we get away with it..
