| Do (some of) our fans deserve to go up this season? 11:10 - Dec 21 with 3849 views | jasondozzell | KM and team quietly making progress. We were always going to finish top 6 but I'm now very optimistic about top two. I think we will win the league. But do we deserve to go up again? When KM came in our support deserved every moment after years of misery and after backing the team through thick and thin. A few idiots aside (Bristol Rovers away etc) the support was excellent and it was always about enjoying the team's success. But ever since the success came back that's gone in many ways. A lot of 'fans' now who seen to see Town as a 'plaything' - something to discard at the first moment it's not doing what you want it to do. A lot of individualism where 'support' is all about me having a good time and generally behaving like a berk and not really about the team's success at all. The kind of supporter who spends all the game more interested in the opposition fans and posturing and doesn't watch the game at all. Or who loves giving it large on social media when everything is great but really it's still all about them and not the team. Dare I say it the kind who says 'the tifo spoilt my view for 30 seconds'. The treatment of the team and some players this season along with the entitlement has been horrible to see. Same mob who wrote off Philogene and Clarke unable to see the irony of their disgraceful treatment of MacAteer. As Sitters said, it was poor to see thousands flocking for the exit yesterday ahead of the end. I know some people have to get off and can't help it but the majority of that was the 'i want to get home and not be delayed' crowd. Individualism again. Staying to clap the players and staff after winning 3-1 at home before Xmas isn't asking much is it. And it's becoming farcical in games when we go berserk over playing out from the back. The ENTIRE KM period of success has been built on this!!!!!!!! It's brave football. Same crowd then gets excited when surprise surprise we break their press doing it and find the spare man. Grown men where I sit who turned up once the team started doing well screaming at Walton is so bloody annoying. Do we deserve to go up? A part of me thinks we really don't. Away I think its been alright tbh, 1 or 2 exceptions but I've been at 6 of our 10 away games in the league and all but 1 have been a decent atmosphere IMO. PR has been poor, its never been the most raucous even in promotion seasons, but this year has been the worst since McKenna took over. I'm not really one to moan about people not singing, I think its their prerogative as much as it is people who want to, but I don't like the negativity some people express and there does seem to be a lot going along absolutely desperate to moan at players after their first heavy touch. The amount of stick Hirst gets is OTT and I don't think it helps the team. Look at Leeds and Sunderland, I don't think its a coincidence that they're picking up points at home, they're tough places to visit. The same can't be said for PR. | | | |

| Do our fans deserve to go up this season? on 17:54 - Dec 21 by DavoIPB | Exactly this. Other teams easily play out from the back and find it very easy to play around us quickly getting the ball into midfield and up the pitch. We do the same move every time and it's so easy to read. |
This is just silly though and the kind of over the top nonsense that makes the board a pretty depressing place. Your description makes it sound as though we're getting dominated every game, that teams are cutting through us with ease and we're creating nothing. That's just not true though, is it? Second top scorers, second lowest conceded, most big chances created in the league, lowest xGA in the league. It's impossible to reconcile your description of our matches with reality.

The current squad would need a complete overhaul again as the majority of the current squad are nowhere near Premiership standard and do you have confidence that the recruitment team would get it right this time? |
Every team that goes up needs to strengthen. Players who are good enough to start every week in the Prem don't tend to sign for Championship clubs. We have a better base to build from this time both on and off the pitch.

| As well as fans streaming out… what about McKenna support?! 4 years!! on 08:43 - Dec 22 by unstableblue | As you say the early mass exit and lethargic response to the fist bump from A Block and Lower North… after a 3-1 win, into third, just before Christmas… was woeful. Especially as the likes of Kipre, Matusiwa and Philogene had put really good shifts in, Clarke continues to play some great stuff, and we’d ended the game with some waves of exciting attack - for example Azor and McAteer deserved that goal, Keeper extended legs brilliantly and fortuitously. But I really felt for McKenna… he approached North to clap and receive some praise.. it was emptying… then as he turned and walked back there was a muted Super McKenna song… which he turned back to face and it limply died Where’s the TIFO or vocal support for the guy - he could have left easily twice and might have been better for him. Yes the players haven’t delivered this season fully, but we’re in a good spot. Yes it was a poor first half performance but the second was much improved. The Sheff Weds fans support for their players is a model. Let’s give McKenna and the boys some backing - people might be surprised by the difference it makes. |
'Woeful', indeed. Mmmmm. Wednesday fans have got their club back, after ridding themselves of the truly appalling Chansiri. They know they're going down this year, but, in terms of the greater picture, they will come back - they're too big not to, By way of context, it was fairly widely reported that the Wednesday club shop took £200k in the immediate few days after Chansiri's departure - this is a club that is, for want of a better phrase, having great rebound sex after dumping their ex. That's a large factor in their noisy support on Saturday, not forgetting, of course, that Wednesday have always travelled well. We put away a fully skint Wednesday relatively comfortably on Saturday - as we should. It was a good (if expected) result. People might consider that 'entitled' - I've seen that phrase bandied around a lot on here recently - so be it. McK is a shrewd guy with an excellent agent - he is now being extremely well-recompensed as a result of last summer's bun fight with Brighton. I've no issue with that whatsoever - we all need to earn a living - but this weird idea that, in light of the above, he should had a Tifo after we were relegated last season, with one of the worst points tallies ever, and a season this year where we are 9 points off the top, halfway through the season - that's for the birds, frankly. We are 6 points ahead of a shambolic Leicester in 13th - this is a truly mediocre league this year, regardless of the supposed lack of support or otherwise.

Think this January is going to be ultra important as our squad is unbalanced and definitely needs addressing.

Goes back to my post.... theres a huge section of "fans" that have decided we are crap and they wont be shifted from that view. So regardless of win, lose or draw they will pick a negative angle and live and die by it. Its bizarre behaviour but probably says a lot about the entitled way of modern thinking. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Off the pitch I totally agree, on it I just don’t see one player who I think will make the step up comfortably, just my opinion of course.

I disagree. I think we have a few players capable of playing regular minutes in the Prem. Out of interest, which of our last promotion winning team do you think were good enough for the Prem?

If we all agreed on everything this forum would be a boring place. With regards to the team that went up before, the one player although he was only on loan at the time, was Hutchinson. Anyhow, let’s hope come the end of this season we have been promoted and despite my fears we can have this discussion again.

Sorry, Funge, I was snarking, and I really shouldn’t have been. If there was a point to it, it’s that your post and others by others does seem un-necessarily angsty given where we find ourselves and how much time there still remains in the season.
